Yes, I love this track plan, but my yard tracks are staying straight into my yard. This crossing is a great idea for possible expansion or interchange track as well though.

Yours is a great idea, and I am okay with either option. Sadly, I am not even using that spur on my line. My issue is wanting elevation but not causing turnouts to then be on those elevations. My track plan is closest to this one now, but using all set track. And the guts are more like Byron’s plan.

I believe this track plan was an adaptation of MRR 'The Virginian" project 4x8 layout. Byron Henderson drew this up as taking a 4x8 and placing it around the walls. I have been kicking around the idea of building this layout as it offers a few of my givens & druthers. The crossing allows for interchange behind the door.
My change will be a harbor scene on the spur at the top of the U where a barge will be loaded with aggregate from the quarry up the branch. Where I live rock from British Columbia is brought in via barge and unloaded for the local aggregate industry.

What a great idea in my opinion! You are right, I did find it while reading Byron’s tips. It’s an awesome plan and if I was using smaller radius, it might have worked for me as well.

Slowly but surely it will get done.....little rougher than some of the best modellers would do, but it will work for me. A piece of history; invaluable in my opinion just like your layout!
