Hey, Names Kyle. im 20 years old and i just found this site last night. Im going to start working on my first real layout (last 5 have been failed attempts). Got a 10 1/2 by 14 1/2 foot spare room and got some HO scale equipment from my trip to the Worlds Greatest Hobby train show that was in ohio a year or so ago.
Been into MRRing all my life, but from a life of travel, moving and a lack of $$$ i have not been able to get anything built before. This time though i plan to get one done!
Im looking for any help and advice i can get on the best way to start, all i really know is the time period im going to model. i have been in love with big steam all my life, im hoping to be able to model a steam terminal some place in the layout but i havent got that far yet.
So once again, Hello from Ohio!
Hi Ktle!

Hello, Kyle, and weolcome aboard. I'm originally from Cleveland {Yuck!}. As I do for all newcomers, my first suggestion os to go to
www.nmra.com and read the Beginner's GUide. It will give you an idea of what's available out there now, how to build basic benchowork, develop a track plan, and news about DCC, which is the latest and greatest way to control your railroad.
Welcome Kyle!
Got some great help here on the forums. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
The only dumb question is the one never asked!
Thanks all, feel at home already
Whats the general opinion on the Bachmann EZ command DCC system? i picked it up cheep at the train show but im not sure on its functions yet.
The Bachmann E-Z Command is an excellent starter system, especially if you got it cheap. It's much better to start out with DCC rather than DC and then switch over to DCC. It won't have all the features that other, more sophisticated systems like Digitrax and NCE have, but it's a snap to set up and you can easily run three trains at the same time with no special wiring. It will also handle sound equipped locomotives. At some point, you'll outgrow it, but you can then move up to a better system and probably get most or all of your money back by selling the E-Z Command on e-bay. That's how I started and I look at the E-Z Command system as a good way to get a cheap and easy introduction to DCC.
