I have dug around the forum but I cannot find the name of this red hose on the front of this loco. If I search MU all I get is the verticle hoses on the pilot. The picture is from Details West and I have looked at some of thier kits but is this hose available on its own?

That's the MU Cable - the vertical hanging objects are MU hoses; the latter are for air brake control, the former for everything else. Details West makes 'em, part #DTW-236 for installation like you've shown, or #DTW-219 for plugged one side and looped up over the anticlimber.

Thanks for all the help and links guys! Here is a photo of a real SD35 with the MU cable in place, only it doesn't seem to have a plug on the right hand side, instead it looks hardwired into the side of the receptacle? If I am right the plug receptacle on the left is only a holder and isn't wired back to anything right?

Here is the Atlas SD35 version, which does not have a holder on the left hand side. So what would be the best thing to do? Order a DTW-236 like Chris suggested and cut the plug end off of the one end and glue it to the side of the receptacle on the model. Or cut the receptacle off of the model and glue the complete Details West part on in its place?
