I remember the event on the news but I was only 10 at the time so didnt pay much attention to it.Yep. Remember it well. It was the day before my birthday. It was on the news 24/7 just like 911.
My biggest problem was the whole C3PO deal. The whole point of droids like R2D2 and C3PO is that there are thousands or 10s of thousands of them out there being a production model droid. Yet here in this movie we have Anikin building C3PO from scratch?? Huge blunder on their part, to me it ruins the entire effect of the series.I am a Star Wars fan. Just a fan not a crazy but I had no real issue with Phantom Menace. Most of them were poorly scripted and the actors just above acceptable. But there was just something about the series that captivated the movie goers and I was one of those.

Yet then so many other things are forcibly contrived to match the later episodes. It doesn't flow. I had always thought Lucas had already written all nine before he started, but obviously not. Then with all the time between Return of the Jedi and Phantom Menace I thought it was painfully obvious that he hadn't thought too much about it in those intervening years either.
Well....maybe C3PO was a DIY kit. Sorta like one of the old "Heathkit" electronic kits from the 1950's and 60's.VMy biggest problem was the whole C3PO deal. Yea, doing the math they got 7mpg (which probably isn't to shabby for the time and technology) and covered and average ofI'll bet their butts were sore by the time they arrived in New York.
