2026 - The United States and Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iran, intending to stop their attainment of a nuclear weapon and ballistic missiles capable of ultimately reaching the U.S. and wiping the non-fanatical world from the face of the Earth! How it will all come out is TBD.
February 28, 2026, is the 199th anniversary of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O), the first common carrier railroad and the oldest railroad in the United States. It was chartered February 28, 1827, by the Maryland Legislature and the Commonwealth of Virginia on March 8, 1827.
The B&O Railroad was officially chartered in 1827, making history as the first common carrier railroad in the United States. Throughout history, the railroad has made its impact on America from time zones to pop culture references like the Monopoly board! Next year, we will turn 200 years old and officially celebrate 200 years of American railroading. And with that anniversary comes so much excitement and growth for us as a Museum. And while the future is looking bright, we want to take the time to thank you in the present for supporting the B&O. We couldn’t imagine spending our birthday with anyone else.

After five years of construction, the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River at the Arizona–Nevada border was completed. It is the highest concrete arch dam in the United States.
On this day in 1872, U.S. Pres. Ulysses S. Grant signed the act that established Yellowstone National Park—widely considered the first national park in the world. While the country had some protected land (such as Yosemite, which was a state park at the time), the act was instrumental to establishing federal protection for the land on a much larger scale.
4 March 1954: Lockheed test pilot Anthony W. LeVier takes the prototype XF-104 Starfighter, 53-7786, for its first flight at Edwards Air Force Base in the high desert of southern California. The airplane’s landing gear remained extended throughout the flight, which lasted about twenty minutes.

1946 - Ho Chi Minh, the President of Vietnam, struck an agreement with France that recognized his country as an autonomous state within the Indochinese Federation and the French Union.
1975 - Iran and Iraq announced that they had settled their border dispute.
1982 - National Basketball Association history was made when San Antonio beat Milwaukee 171-166 in three overtime periods to set the record for most points by two teams in a game. The record was beaten on December 13, 1983 by the Pistons and the Nuggets when they played to a final score of 186-184
