I have close friends waiting for family to be returned home.
I pray for all the innocent people on all sides who are caught in between the extremists.
another reason why I just turn it off.
I've been avoiding the news for years and I am much happier and healthier because of it.

Don't start no 💩 and there won't be none. If you do start it, you can never know when or how it will end.

Now for the news I do follow! There are four elimination games scheduled to be played today in MLB.

Today's games will be tomorrow's history. The links to today's previews will automatically become links to the box scores. How cool is that? I love MLB.com!

Oct 8, 1871

On this day in 1871, the Great Chicago Fire began in the barn of Patrick and Catherine O'Leary, and, by the time the blaze died out two days later, a large swath of the city had been devastated and some 300 people killed.

The same day of the Great Chicago Fire October 8th 1871 was a much more dangerous and deadlier fire in Wisconsin. The Prshtigo Fire killed 1500 to 2500 people. The difference in media and history coverage is because the great Chicago Fire was in the City of Chicago. Media even back then as now was very biased

Sorry I was traveling the 8th and could not respond until this morning

November 9th 1989 – The fall of the Berlin Wall

This Thursday evening, Günter Schabowski, a member of the GDR Politburo, surprisingly announced new travel regulations for GDR citizens at a press conference. Until then, people in East Germany were only allowed to travel to West Germany with official permission, which was very rarely granted. Even applying for permission would often result in harassment and discrimination. Apparently due to a misunderstanding, Schabowski stated that the new regulation would come into force immediately. The news spread like wildfire, causing thousands and thousands of people to flock to the border crossings, in Berlin in particular. At around 11.30 p.m. the border guards could no longer withstand the pressure of the crowd, and the crossing at Bornholmer Strasse was the first to be opened. One year after the fall of the Berlin Wall, on October 3rd 1990, Germany was officially reunified.

Americans under George Washington and the French under Comte de Rochambeau begin bombardment of Yorktown
Brilliant Mike!

We Americans often overlook the decisive contribution of the French to our impendence.

The French Expeditionary Force under General Jean‑Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, the Comte de Rochambeau. (sometimes called the Army of Rochambeau) consisted of about 7,000-8,000 professional French soldiers. King Louis XVI sent them to our aid. They were joined by a French fleet under Admiral de Grasse. At great expense to the French treasury.

Weeks before the surrender at Yorktown the French fleet won The Battle of the Chesapeake also called the Battle of the Virginia Capes on September 5, 1781. Enabling the French to seal off the Chesapeake Bay and prevent British reinforcements or escape.

France’s financial support for the American Revolution was enormously costly. Combined with the lavish spending of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, it left France nearly bankrupt, fueling unrest.

In a very real sense, the American Revolution helped set the stage for the French Revolution, which cost King Louis XVI, his Queen Marie Antoinette, and many other their heads!

The Boston Red Sox secured their 4th World Series title by beating the National League's Brooklyn Robins four games to one.

It was the Second consecutive World Series title for a young pitcher, Baltimore native, Babe Ruth. In 1916 Ruth started 43 games and appeared in relief in four more for the Red Sox. He pitched 41 complete games as a starter for a total of 323 and 2/3 innings pitched. He won 23 games and recorded the lowest ERA (1.75) of any lefthanded pitcher to pitch in Fenway Park. A stadium notorious for being hard on lefthanders. That record still stands today, 109 years later.
