On December 21, 2008, I spoke to the fellow, Vishal Parmar, at
the Whippany Railway Museum, who had served two tours of duty in Iraq, having returned one year ago to the States. He has been unable to find steady employment, and would like to build a basic H.O. 4 x 8
Layout, or something slightly under that in size. Vishal doesn't have a talent for even basic Benchwork, so he needs help with at least getting a suitable Layout Board assembled. I have a list (see below) from Vishal as to what equipment and materials he has on hand, and if it's possible, it would be nice if either individually, or collectively, some of us Model Railroaders could supply the wood needed for the Layout, and whatever else would be needed to make the Layout operable. We'd also need someone who could assemble the Board. In addition to the aforementioned, I know that Vishal needs the Layout to be portable, since he is currently living with his Parents, and when he is able to get a steady job, and move out on his own, he would want to be able to take the Layout with him.
Hopefully, somehow, we can collectively make this happen, it would
certainly be a nice and lasting way to say 'welcome home' to one of
our returning Veterans.
What I'm looking for on my set is an urban scene during the summer or fall with the amount of buildings I have I think it can be possible. For crossings I would like the modern crossings if possible cantilever or regular gates.
I have nine buildings all HO Scale from Walthers
1. Whitehall Station (1 story brick structure)
2. Maywood Station
3. Two Story two bay Firehouse
4.Four Story American Hardware Bldg
5. four Story Bralick Bldg
6. Four Story G Gordon Printing Bldg
7. Three Story Corner Fmr Walthers HQ
8. White Tower Diner
9 Two story Railroad YMCA (Recent release.)
Here is my rolling stock
Two M&E ALCOs 19&19
One M&E RS1
One EL E-8
One Amtrak AEM-7
One NJT AEM-7
Six Walthers Commuter Cars including snack car (custom EL paint)
Nine Walthers Amtrak passenger cars
I can supply a 'Board Covering', and any labor needed to repair any rolling stock Vishal already has.
1. A 4' x 8' Sheet of Plywood
2. 1 x 4's to make a Frame
3. Enough Track to make a complete Loop on the Board
4. A small Powerpack (need not be new).
5. Someone good at building a basic 4 x 8 or small Layout Board
