Pards,

I am just getting into DCC. I have a Zephyr system coming and temporarily will be running a large oval with one train. I bought a Bachmann Spectrum 2-10-2 that is DCC equipped. After hearing some of the new loco's with sound I sure would like to have it on mine. Could someone out there give me some info. on what I would need to install sound on my Steam Engine, or perhaps point me to a websight that would help me with this project. Or would I be better off buying a new loco already sound equipped. Many thanks in advance.

You can install sound in your 2-10-2 as long as you are familiar with doing a little soldering. The top quality unit you can get is the Tsunami at http://www.soundtraxx.com/products/dcc/microtsunamidecoders.htm. It is, of course, also the most expensisive. The other option I would use is the Digitrax Sound Bug or the Digitrax Sound FX sound only decoders. These come with the speaker and capacitor already attached. The Sound Bug is probably the easiest to install. You replace the Bachmann decoder with a Digitrax 165 Series DCC decoder and then just plug in the Sound Bug. The tender has plenty of room for the speaker and the sound, while not as good as the Tsunami, is still very nice.
