Need help with a proto 2000 problem. I have 2 proto 2000 steamers that reset every time I turn the power on. I can re-program them from the default address to another and they will run fine until I hit the stop button or turn the power off and back on at which time they wont respond at all until I re-program them back to the factory deffault address. I have 3 other proto 2000 locos that all run perfect. All 5 locos are about 2 years old with less than 2 hours running time. I have tried running them on 2 different DCC layouts but same problem. Also tried unpluging and plugging the tender. I'm thinking it may be the reed switch, but want to be sure before I order parts.
Are the decoders factory installed? If not try contacting the decoder manufacturer. Also there is a way on some decoders to lock in the information and it can't be changed until it is unlocked. Check operating papers or again contact the manufacturer.
Yes decoders are factory installed and worked fine for the first few months.
I am not familiar with the reed switch you mentioned. I would contact their tech support first. Tonys Trains might be able to help also
www.tonystrains.com They have been very helpful to me several times.
Does the loco have a reset switch? If so maybe it's stuck
