help identify this loco *PICS*

The top one appears to be an athearn, but no clue what the bottom one is.

Im still scratching my head about the gold side frames and fuel tank. Or at least it looks gold to me.

any ideas?

Judging by the lack of detail, the bottom one looks like either a bachmann, or life-like. It could also be an Athearn although looking at the trucks, it could be a dummy. (unpowered)

My guess is Bachmann also for the C44-9. The fuel tank is too plain for Athearn. It just looks like someone did a bad job painting the fuel tanks and trucks gold. I'm not too sure about the top one either. Looks like Athearn motor mounts but the coupler moutns don't look like typical Athearn. It would have helped to have a side view of these also.

Top is an Athearn U30C.

Bottom is a Rail Power Dash 8-40CW shell with an Overland drive.

How do you guys tell whether its an Athearn? Are they any noticable features?

I know the top one is Athearn by the bottom of the trucks and the 4 holes for the motor mounts. Some Proto 2000 locos also have the same motor mount holes, but Proto never made a U30C.

The drive on the bottom loco is clearly OMI, but the body is a dash 8 - I said dash 9 earlier. RPP made both. Overland made a drive for the RPP dash 8.

I see the remains of price stickers on the bottom, curious how they were priced especially relative to each other. Athearn U-boat is worth 20 bucks. The drive on the dash 8 could get you $100 on ebay.

I agree with the Athearn U28C/U30C ID for the the top one. I'll defer to Andy for the bottom one since I have very little knowledge of the Rail Power line.

Anyone recoginze these HO Locomotives?

I recently was given these HO scale locomotives. Can anyone please help me identify them? Thanks!

They are all Athearn Blue Box line. The first is a GP-35, the second is a Baldwin S-12, the third is too dark to tell for sure, I think a GP-7. The fourth is really dark but I think it's either an SD-45 or SDP45. The last is a B&O GP-7

Jim, check the trucks on that 3rd one. More like an SD9??

Thank you, guys!

Thank you Jim and Jerome. Yes, the third loco is an SD9. (I found a picture of an SD9 body on Athearn's site and it matches)

Despite the poor pictures, you guys ID'd them all. I really appreciate it. Thank you.

Good catch, Jerome, I completely overlooked the trucks. Those vents should have tipped me off also.

Actually, if you look closely at the roof line on the fourth one, it looks more like a FP45, as it looks like a full cowl on the loco with a front and back porch. The odd thing is, I can't remember PRR having any....

Peter, does that 4th loco, the Pennsylvania one, body look like this:
http://trainweb.org/jfuhrtrain/FP45data.htm, if so then it is a fp45.

Id agree the first three are athearn. But the fourth one, the pennsy fp45 looks like one of the cheap ones made by mehano. If the fuel tank is plastic, has truck mounted couplers and has plastic handrails then it would be mehano. It should also say mehano or such on the bottom of the fuel tank and the words " made in yugoslovia". Hope this helps.

mehano

Yes, on the bottom of the fuel tank is printed "Made in Yugoslavia" and it does look like the picture you posted. Thanks for all the help!
