Hello all!

I recently moved out to Sierra Vista, AZ to do some contracting work at Ft. Huachuca.

I don't own much in terms of model railroading, but I figure it's a good idea to join a forum like this, and learn as much as I can about the hobby while I am getting started. I have my sights set on modern era HO, but not sure of the layout size (likely less than 100 sq. ft.)

That said, I am already have tons of fun just learning about railroading and designing a track plan.

It's always a good idea to get yourself into the hobby by gaining as much information as possible. We are all here to help you along your way and to sometimes get help ourselves in cases like mine :D and would be happy to give out the information we have. Welcome and I hope you find what you are looking for here. I know that I have very much since I joined!

Hello Jfluh & Welcome to the forum,
There are lots of helpful friendly guys & gals on here who are more than willing to help as you might need.

We are at different ends of the modeling as I'm in the 1885 era and a bit into the 1900's but it's all a lot of fun and creative.

The only thing I can see is that modeling the more modern equiipment as your planning in a 10' x 10' area will probably require a layout that you operate from the inside like Selector's due to the larger radiuses you will require for the engines and cars.

Anyway, glad your here with us.

Thank you for the welcome. Much appreciated:)

@Trussrod
Thank you for the welcome as well, and I appreciate the advice regarding the wheelbase lengths of modern equipment.

Hello and welcome aboard. Always happy to meet new people coming into the hobby and to know its still going strong. Lots if info to be found here as I have gained lots of info and tips. Like the last poster said, you will need to watch the length of locomotives and cars on your curved tracks. Plan ahead for broader curves such as 32" curves. I would look into buying flex track which you can bend into just about any curve you want. With that being said go through older threads about the different track and switches to figure out what would suit your needs and if you still have questions feel free to ask. Hope you have fun and wish you luck. By the way keep us updated and post photos of progress.We love photos...lol

@Photogdad

Thank you for the welcome! I still need to settle on the exact specifications of my bench work, which of course will then dictate my layout possibilities. I do have a whole room in the house that I can take over, but I think I will feel more comfortable just working in the garage (as we move a lot these days).

Don't worry. I will be uploading photos as I progress.

If I remember correctly, there is a model railroad club in the Sierra Vista, AZ area:

Spookyac47,

Thanks for the info. I have been to the clubs website but sadly it is out of date and they do not have meeting hours posted. Nor did i see a phone number listed. I may not have looked thoroughly enough. I plan on dropping by their club soon and seeing what i can find out. Thanks again.
