Hi folks. Did'nt see a "new members" section, so i decided to post here. You know the drill....train set when i was a kid, yadda yadda.

Fast forward about 20 years, and here i am, tackling an extremely unusual project. The B&O's West End, circa 1948, in N. Thankfully i am an accomplished modeler, with a decent library of reference material to draw from, as just about everything needs to be scratchbuilt or bashed for this. I am about halfway done with the first P2K 2-8-8-2 to EL-1 2-8-8-0 conversion, as well as in the infant stages of converting a couple of Kato mikes to Q4Bs for B&O service. The layout will be populated by herds of 2-8-8-0s, along with a few EM-1s, as soon as i find a source for the drivers that is, taking coal east and empties west. For this layout, N just seemed logical, as i want the railroad to LOOK like the west end, snaking its way through the mountains.

Anyway, hello all. Nice little forum y'all have here!

Hello, Tim, and welcome aboard! Sounds like you quite a project planned. N scale is a great choice to get those really long coal drags going. We're looking forward to pictures of your locomotives and layout progress.

Hi Tim, nice to meet you and WELCOME!
You have an interesting layout plan ahead of you. Always like to follow a good build. :)

Greetings Tim, and welcome. Sounds like you know quite a bit about the prototype you want to model - are you a member of the B&O Historical Society?

Sounds like some nice projects. Got photos of the 2-8-8-0 project? I'd love to see a major steam kitbash

Welcome, Tim. It is always a pleasure to welcome a newcomer, a fresh face, and fresh perspective. I think you will find it a pleasant stay here.

Nosir, not yet. Probably half of my reference material was purchased from them, and their B&O Modeler magazine has been invaluable to me for all of this! It was actually a recent article in that magazine, where a Kato mike was converted to an S-1 2-10-2, that made me decide to take the plunge and do this in N. Between college and my less than high-paying job, im afraid it dosent leave much money for dues for the B&O HS:(

Being from West Virginia originally, the B&O just seemed the best choice for me. The dramatic scenery of the West End, coupled with huge locomotives, helper operations, and modest train lengths combined to make it (to me, anyway) the perfect subject to model.

I will post a step by step of the 2-8-8-2 conversion when it is completed to the point it at least resembles what it is intended to be, hopefully the next conversion goes faster than this one has!

Tim
