My name is John Litz and I am from Columbia Md. I just started to get into Model Railroading and I feel like a kid at Christmas with so many presents to open. I hope I get to talk with all of you guys at some point as your experience is my interest. Thanks, John Litz

Hi John and a hardy welcome to our forum and to MR. The feeling you have is one that is common with all of us and happens every time we order something;) . Will you tell us a little more on what you want to build: scale, layout size, era, scenery, DCC or DC, etc. The hobby is endless on what you can do.

At this point I am reading as much as I can due to my lack of knowledge in this hobby. In reading I am learning about the history behind each locamotive as well as their function. I hate to say this but right now I love them all. i am starting out with a layout that extends itself around the perimeter of my office area with two tracks that will allow me to run two engines in oposite directions. I have done some research on wall mounted layouts and it looks like it might be a challenge so any info would be great. I thought I would begin this way so I can gain some experience with the track and some simple layout work. Being new I have many questions and thank God most can be answered in good reading material. thanks for your help and support as i will need it.

Hi John and welcome to MRF

I live in Woodstock near the B&O Old Main Line, so I guess we're practically neighbors. I don't know much about N scale since I've always been into HO, but I can probably help with just about anything that isn't scale-specific.

He who plays with trains

WOOOOOHOOOOOO! another train head. I promise well get them all.train heads of the world unite.we r not nerds,or weird.we r only kids at heart. the sooner people realize that the better off we'll be

Well said, thanks guys for the welcome and I am looking forward to spending all of the monet I don't have and asking questions that you guys have answered 500 times. Thanks again.
WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

welcome john um if i may ask how large is your office

My office is not very big it is only 9 by 10. I figured it would give me a chance to get my hands on training no punn intended. That way I can just take over a room or area after I feel more comfortable with the building aspect. I will be doing a wall mouted double circle,I think with the height I will not be able to do any sceenery which is ok. I will get into that on a larger layout. Just to run some trains and hear that whistle blow and that horn sound off, man I can't wait. it's great to finally know some fellas that share in this excitement. I'm sure at some point I will need help from all of you guys so thanks I will need all of the help I can get.

Hi, John, and welcome aboard. I think you're being very smart just starting with a small around the wall layout. You'll get a little experience building and watching the trains go round and round is always fun. :) You'll get bored with that eventually but, by then, you'll know if you really like model railroading and can go ahead and plan a real layout. If it turns out you don't like as much as you think now, at least you haven't lost much. I always cringe when we get a new member with no experience that's planning a basement sized layout and spending thousands of dollars.

Thankyou and I willl need some help with trying to figure out how to plan the radious cuts on the corners. any info would be great. Thanks
