I have 2 Athearn GP 38-2 of Union Pacific and I want superdetailing these locos.
On Walthers catalogue I found:

Smokey Valley RR Products Handrail Kits (676-30)
Cannon & Company Safety Tread & Step Kit (Photo-Etched Brass) (191-2001)

Details West snow-plows with footboards (235-110) and Western style (235-140)
(What is the difference?)

Cannon & Company fuel tank detail set (191-2001)

Keystone cab interiors (395-3305)

Now I have more problems with horns, bells, antennas, lights cables….

Can you help me?

Thank you

Dario

How did I know you'd tell me to reply!

*deep breath* OK... *gets distracted with Tower 55 detail kit*
So, you're detailing a GP38-2?

Here's a list of parts used to detail Union Pacific SD40-2, the parts should all be the same:
PL-206 Snow Plow
MU-266 MU Hoses 3 Cluster
AH-302 Air Hose, Locomotive Drop Type
AH-190 Air Horn Leslie RSL-3LR
HL-117 Headlight, Twin Sealed Beam
BE-127 Bell, Underframe Mount
AF-139 Air Filter Set
MU-220 MU Cable Detail
AT-304 Air Tank Detail Set
FF-312 Fuel Filler & Gauges
SR-284 Speed Recorder
DP-305 Drain Pipe Details
RA-157 "Firecracker" Antenna
SV-188 Cab Sun Visors
RA-275 Radio Antenna (Sinclair Short Type)
DL-228 Ditch Lights w/Lenses

Also of note, you can use A-line steps (if they have them for a GP38-2), and Plano diamond tread, but the Plano stuff is plain stock, you'll have to cut to size. Its really a choice there. I'd also suggest buying the Cannon Cab, sub-base, & nose to replace to stock ones, the Keystone interior will fit better in a Cannon cab kit.

Whenever recearching a detail addition, its allways great to check out Details West's website:
http://www.detailswest.com/

If you need more help, I'll see what I can do.

Thank you for your reply (and excuse me for the delay).

I have searched and I have found all the articles on Walthers catalogue but I have a big big problem: I don't know anything about extra european railways so I have more questions.

Sub-base:
1201 (all Line & 40 Series Units) or
1202 (all Dash 2 & 50/60 Series Units)?

Nose:
1103 (81" Introduced in 1963, used on all hood units, from early 35 line through early Dash 2s) or
1104 (88 "Introduced in 1977, this is the standard nose for all post-1977 Dash 2s through the GP60s and SD70s) or
1105 (116" The first of the "snoots." used on early SP SD40t-2 "tunnel motors" and Union Pacific SD40-2s)?

I wish change also the Long Hood Ends, Grilles, Screens and Radiator Fans.

Long Hood Ends:
1152 (Standard hood end for GP/SD38s, 39s and 40s)?

Inertial Filter Screens:
1301 (Late Dash 2 GPs)?

Radiator Screens:
1401 (Used on late GP38-2, GP39-2 and SD45-2)?

Radiator Fans:
1702 (Thinwall EMD 48" Radiator Fans, Used on all Late GP/SD35 & Early GP/SD38, GP/SD40s) or
1704 (Thinwall EMD 48" Radiator Fans, Late GP/SD38, GP/SD40 & Pre-1980 GP/SD38-2s & GP/SD40-2s) or
1852 (Thinwall EMD 48" Dynamic Brake Fans, For all Late GP/SD35s & Early GP/SD38, 39, 40 & SD45s) or
1853 (Thinwall EMD 48" Dynamic Brake Fans, Final Design for Late GP/SD38, 39, 40, SD45 & all Dash 2 Units)?

Help me, please!

Dario

You want the following for a GP38-2:

This one would be over the Dynamic Brake hump in the middle of the long hood.
