Greeting Message

I log in to be greeted by:

"Hello Roger Hensley it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?"

No, I probably have not. Why? Because if a question has been answered or there are numerous comments already, I see no reason to add my own. I will seldom, if ever, just post to post as I consider it a waste of somebody's resources.

If you want something of me, then permit me to suggest that you visit:

Best I can do.

There is a wealth of information at each one of the links you've posted. I especially like the Tips, Tricks and How To's at the first one.
Thank you for providing them.

Roger,

The intent of that greeting message, (which everyone gets) is to encourage new members, or members that haven't posted in a while, to participate in the forum discussions.

Granted, some folks want to just read, and that's perfectly all right. But by encouraging folks to post, we're trying to let them know that everyone can participate, not just a select group of regulars. I think maybe I'll have a look at the text and re-write it a bit so it seems less demanding while still encouraging folks to join in the discussions if they'd like.

It's actually part of a package of forum messages, including ones that tell folks how to activate their accounts if the spam filter eats the confirmation letter, suggests that guests register, and similiar things to encourage membership and growth.

Most forums that try it report it increases activity.

Like anybody else who doesn't post often,I too get one of these messages. Now I'm usually not one to post if I can't contribute to a thread in some way.(Case in point,I've been on the Gauge almost 5 years and don't have two thousand posts yet and I'm a mod:D )

I enjoy coming here and will continue to do so,but you may not get much typing from me.:D

Hi Catt, you're welcome to visit and read here, the same as I do at the Gauge nowdays, :D and if you don't post that's ok too :( . It's basically the same on all forums, all that is happening here is to try and get some of the readers posting. I'm sure there are those who could contribute much to the discussions but for reasons of their own are reluctant to do so.
My excuse for not posting elsewhere nowdays :D is genuine, I'm just too tied up with other non RR related matters, and my time online is limited.

That may well be true, but your posts there and elsewhere are not just chit chat, remember I read too :D

You're welcome here :) and as to the typing problem:eek: , I have an old "Mavis Beacon" typing program if that would be any help to you :D :D LOL on second thought it wasn't much good to me either.

We're working up a new 'Tip' Scratchbuild article on a fantastic bridge that Matt Hewitt has just finished. The photos really don't do it justice I'll post a notice when it's ready.
