OK i know this is gonna sound silly but thats ok.

So lets say I have yellow for UP, but wanna make it a more mustard yellow or even a lil darker then that. what color would ya add to it to do so?

Or for a better example if ya had just a basic yellow and ya wanted to get it close to Cat equipment yellow would ya add some orange, brown??

Also when some says just for example ya mix 1 part (Paint) to 2 parts thinner or what ever. How much exactly is a part??? LOL

but seriously how to ya go about measuring out what ya need to thin paint down to run through an air brush. Im sure when the air brush gets here im gonna have questions.

Or are there any sites explaing this type of stuff. Like ive said before im a rattle can guy so this is gonna be new.

Ive ran spray guns for painting cars but thats alot bigger scale.

thanks fellows.

AFAIK, when they say "1 part to 2/3/4/5/100 parts" it's usually a ratio. Just like a health safety video at work said 1 part bleach to 10 parts water to disinfect a surface. There doesn't seem to really be a set measurment for a "part", as all airbrush containers can differ from others, and the video at my work doesn't know what size/shape container I would use to mix disinfectant.

So take one "part" paint, and add twice as much thinner. It's just some guesswork, is all.

Yeah i kinda answered that 1 part to how ever many parts after i thought about how its done at work say ya use 2 ounces of paint ad 4 ounces of what ever ya use to thin it down with.

A color wheel is a real good way to decode what base colors you will need to mix up. Just be sure to mix a small test sample and apply it to a scrap piece that can be brought into the layout room. Something that looks right under flourescent light can look noticeably different under incandescent light and vice versa. There are even various brilliances of flourescents and that can create different depths of shade in a color.
