Yesterday my friend Mike and I spent the day railfaning..The trip included stops in Tiffin,Fostoria,Willard,Huron,Sandusky and Bellevue.Oddly no pictures was taken in Fostoria as we were scouting for locations to take pictures for our return trip we did see 12 trains in 2 hours not including the yard switchers..We also saw a Chessie B&O caboose and a CSX train hauling 40-50 brand new GATX tank cars.

The first stop was in Tiffin to visit the Northern Ohio & Western..We found these 2 Geeps. The 1701 was ideling.

Great pix Larry,

My favorite is #1701 - I've always been kinda partial to the traditional round-top cabs. Also like the boxy spark arrestors. I bet you could easily kitbash that unit from an Athearn BB geep.

I would start with a Walthers GP9M since it already has a low hood.

Thanks Guys!

EWWW, get a Proto 2000 GP9! The Athearn's are the old wide body style, and the Walthers runs, and looks, like carp...

Or you could do like me, and find a Train Station Products one, or a Cary one.

In this case a P2K low nose GP18 or 20 will not work..You'll need 4 36" fans instead of the 2 48" fans. The P2K GP7/9 would need the nose lowered and more then likely new gears..Personally I would think twice about chopping a high dollar locomotive shell..One oops and you lost a $125.00 loco.
IMHO it would be best to go with the Walthers GP9M.

GP 9 Phase I or II have the 36" fans, Phase III has 48". I guess a GP9 long hood on a GP18 or 20?
