Genesee & Wyoming painted units for new railroad

So, about a year ago i contacted someone about a set of numberboards. I was very surprised that they got back to me and offered a set. When I received them I inquired about the loco they came from. They told me they came off a former DME unit which was now part of the newly formed Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern Railroad a G&W company. They bought up a bunch of trackage that CP or CN was looking to unload and got a bunch of the SD40's from them aswell. So I decided to model the particular locomotive in question.

The prototype.

Very nice work. It's all in the details. Waiting to see the finished product. Keep the pictures coming.

Ask and you shall receive. This is the sister unit, 3421. This one started out as a UP engine before going to DME. I used a Athearn high hood ns unit that I had patched into NYSW 3020. Since the prototype was scrapped at the end of last year, i decided to do it to my model. High hood came off, cannon cab, nose and subbase went in from a previous project.

The original DB hatch was not correct, i needed the extended range version. So i removed one from a bluebox model that i had custom painted into NYSW 3014 and eventually gave to my son. Well the motor blue up and it dont run so i parted it out of what i could salvage. The DB hatch was perfect.

Cannon brass steps again left over from a NYSW SD40-2 that I used just the safety tread on. I was afraid to cut up the steps back then.

Again, second set of grills from Cannon kit that i used on the NYSW SD40-2 went to this model.

Now comes the tough part. Finding the correct horn................oh thats right I had a partially painted rtr tunnel motor shell for NYSW with all the correct parts on it that i no longer needed since athearn released teh final NYSW tunnel motor i just bought one instead of finishing one. So off came the Details West P5 horn to be put on this model.

Now all i need to do is run the air piping since the horn was relocated from the cab roof to the end of the db hatch.

Some how I completely missed this when gluing the cab and nose down. The prototype uses a brake wheel and not the ratchet. So I had to carefully cut out the ratchet assembly from the nose and carefully glue in the brake wheel assembly that was trimmed down to fit.

and lastly what's been done is the air piping from the air reservoir to the air filter.

My parts that I have had to order are slowly coming in and will be added either tonight or tomorrow.
