ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Some recently completed projects for your viewing pleasure.
First off is a small addition to CM 39. I finally found a pair of CM decal badges I had printed awhile ago, and added them to 39's tender.

Next up is the "new" CM 1, (a fine birthday present!) which replaces a substitute CM 1 I've had for a number of years. (More on that one later)

After: (you'll notice a different lettering scheme compared to 39, the CM had many over the years.

I love your coal loads, I will have to work on mine

Very nice!!
Thank you!

Thank you as well! I have a 14oz. jar of it I've been using for these projects. Unfortunately, I don't remember what brand it is because the original packaging fell apart, which is the reason it's in the jar. I'm almost thinking it was something like Arizona Minerals, but I don't remember for certain. I've had it for a long time, though. The new CM 1, however, is the only one I didn't add a coal load to, since it already had a decent looking one to begin with.

I repainted and re-lettered my home built wedge snow plow.

Latest project photo dump. My home built doodlebug, CM, MT & SL Motor 103. As you can see by the photos, this creation started life as a damaged Bachmann Spectrum NYC combine that was missing the trucks and a number of other parts. The drive is a salvaged Tyco unit from a parts ALCO Century series diesel. There's still a few minor issues that need to be worked out, but overall it runs fairly well.

That turned out great!
Thank you!
Holy smokes! That headlight effect is awesome! What kind of bulb is that?
Thank you! The bulb is just the stock incandescent unit that was attached to the salvaged Tyco power truck. The headlight housing is a capstan from a broken cassette player that I modified for that purpose. Who says holding on to old junk doesn't pay off.😄
Well-done! 👍
Thank you!

One of several projects that I completed at the end of '25. First up is CM 101's new tender. Having acquired a large lot of fixer upper tenders, I was finally able to put a tender behind CM 101 that more closely matches what was on the prototype.
Here's before, with the Mantua tender I originally used. (It was all I had available at the time)

Here's after, with a modified MDC tender.

Here's a prototype drawing for comparison.

And, here's a couple of detail shots. Shortly after this class was built, the lettering was changed from "COLORADO MIDLAND" to "CM", and the road number was painted onto the headlight and backup light lenses, so that's what I did here.

Like the Cosby kids used to say, "good junk". Awesome work! Incandescent does have its advantages.
Thank you! I also have a set of Tyco Blomberg B trucks with the built in motor and an incandescent bulb that I'm planning to build something with. Haven't figured out what yet, but they came from an old F7A with a severely warped shell. I may build another doodlebug type unit, or some kind of home grown switcher, but I don't know yet.
