i went to a few antique stores today and found some HO train stuff. Its old tyco stuff from about 1972. I may have over payed a tad but not much. Just thought id share the stuff and i have a few questions. the best part everything actually works.:)

First off is the complete set i found for $35.00

Next is a tyco/mantua set up with the engine/tender & 4 cars. this set had all the instrections for all the cars and the instructions & original box for the engine & tender The engine and tender is the mikado K208:1298 set. I got all this for $55.00 i figured the price wasnt the worst the engine sells for abou $35.00 on the bay.

Now for my question on the back of the locomotive under the cab it appears that something was broken off on both sides. I have the areas circled in red. Maybe someone has a good pic of a complete loco. I did find just a body on ebay cheap that i may grab if in fact this thing is broken.

Thanks for any answers, and thanks for looking.

PS sorry for the dark pics.

The part that's broken is a zamack casting that's almost impossible to repair. I would snap up that extra shell if I wanted the engine in original condition.

Did you pay too much? Don't know, but I know I could have found something in model railroading I wanted more for $100 than old Tyco stuff.

I hate to say it, but if you payed more than $15.00 for all of it you paid too much. I'd return that stuff, and go buy some of the excellent new modeles availble today for much less than you paid for this Tyco stuff.

It looks like that Steam engine doesn't have a motor! Or does it?

Even if the store says "all sales final", most states have a buyer's remorse law that gives you 3 days to return the product.

yes it does have a motor it runs very well.

as far as the price goes, im no to worried about it, since the money was extra i got for hauling in junk from work. So really it was free money lol...

The set i got actually sells for about what i payed for it $35.00, the steam loco sales for about $35.00 also.

But i wont disagree and say it wasnt a bit much.

Stang,

Well if the steamer runs good, that's great! :)

but that train set...how much of it do you think you'll really use?

Yeah i can see your point on the set, the controller wont be used, and the track if any will be deep in a yard or an off track for parking cars. The switcher prolly just to move cars around, but it needs some detail work and some good weathering for sure.

Im just getting back into Model RRing after many many years, i guess i got some catching up to do on stuff LOL.

I do appreciate the imput and opinions from everyone. Dont worry i didnt take anything anyone said badly, im always open to the truth.

I have 1 of those old Tyco engines like U have in the 2nd photo. I paid $3.00 for mine & it was running when I got it. Put a cpl. drops of 3in1 oil in the smoke stack, run it & it should start puffing smoke in about 2 or 3 minutes.
I have an old Varney just about like that one also. It's a smoker too.
I use a lot of the Tyco & Varney stuff in my Model RR Museum on the layout.
I very seldom ever run any Steam engines. All Diesel.

Larry

Alot of people collect old Tyco stuff so I think you will make a profit if you decide to sell it off !
