I have recently built my 10'X8' layout or benchwork. Basic constraction was 4X4 for the legs, 2X4 for the frame, and 3/8" plywood on top. Today I'm laying down the roadbed. The curves are going to be 22"radius. Will post more pix as it evolves :)

Parden the mess, but I have made steady progress. I have my mainline rockin and rolling, however, I have an atlas section switch that isn't working right, that or I'm wiring it wrong. Oh well, I guess its part of the game we all play called problem solving :)

You are moving along good, Indy. Hey, don't worry about heavy construction on a layout; I too am a believer though I used 1x4 framing, 16" ctrs, 1/2" ply, and 2x4 legs. No casual bump will budge it like so many of the foams and lighter constructed layouts.

Sure has been quiet around here the last couple of days. I understand, I have been working on my railroad and doing the honey do list, but so far I have this yard. It's pretty basic and not as nice as say SOO's pictures on another thread, but it works out pretty good. This weekend I plan on wiring the sections and then taking another picture. I wish I had to capability to lable stuff in the picture so you will all know what i have going on. Hopefully the next picture will be better.

Actually I think thats beautiful, much nicer then my track on the carpet concept here.

Ok, once again I'm sorry for taking over someone elses thread(started). I basically copied short cuts from Hd-Fatboy's thread. By the way, your models are excellent Hd and am sorry I didn't mention it in your thread. I just kind of thought it was a free for all on adding your stuff and again I'm sorry. Since I have my own thread here I will add pictures of my layout as it grows and HD you are more than welcome to hijack my thread. :D CHEERS

I was able to get a lot accomplished this weekend. All the track is laid down, except for one switch I didn't get to. I also still have to wire my sections. Remember I'm on a budget so direct current has to work here and I already have a lot of the stuff I need. Anyway, picture #1 where the hammer is, is the north table looking all the way back to the SouthWest table. I will have a grain elevator and a farmers supply type of building there and probably a couple of misc little building. The next picture is a that same table(north) at the corner. The third pic is of the control board. So I have five working sections and need to wire another 15. Shouldn't be too hard besides taking forever to do :). The last pic is the Southwest table. It will have a coal pile, power plant, and a place to park engines along with freight cars. The entire layout will look better with more buildings and some scenery, but for the time being that mainline that runs all the way around from the North table to the Southwest table is working just fine. I had only one issue with a derailment, but was very happy to learn the trial and error of pulling a nail was the only problem. I wouldn't call it skill, i just say I got lucky with my radius. Therefore the canvas is all laid out and the painting is of a flat terrain, dating from the 1970s-1990s. Grain and Coal trains are the norm but there will be Boxcars, gondolas, etc. My railroads are going to be Soo Line, Rock Island, Penn Central,Conrail, CSX, and NS. More to come as it keeps evolving.

Thanks everyone. The layout is basically done or laidout, but I have a wiring issue and have posted a question on the wiring board. Once I get past the wiring I can run trains for a while and then start visualising what kind of scenery I want to do. I want to keep sending pix of it as it keeps evolving though.

Everything has been running pretty good. The next step is painting the wall sky blue and adding some happy clouds, then work on the scenery. I'm very pleased so far.

This weekend I painted the wall with a basement sealer paint from Bear. I had them mix in nordic blue since it was the only blue they had and I'm very pleased with the blue.

I have done the next step of painting the clouds on the walls and want to paint the landscape(horizon). I haven't been in too big of a hurry to do this. That way I feel like I wont burn out or make too many annoying mistakes. I also need to think about what kind of scenery I want to do on the bench itself. More updates later.
