Main Street of the Northwest
Hello everyone! Not much progress but we now have almost all of the power strung and ready to permanently stick down the track. Lots of experiments with painting locomotives. Here's the revised scheme, done on a simply terrible mehano C420 but I think it will look good on my better equipment as well.

Love this layout ! What curve radii do you use ?
That looks really good, nice and clean looking! Well done!
Going to be a fun little layout to operate!

Its the Kato 200110 and 20170 with a couple 20111 thrown in for the spur line looping back on itself. It's a Steve's Trains layout, I modified slightly some of the small industry tracks to fit buildings I already had better. I am excited to get wiring all in to play with the DCC with more than 8" of track haha

Got the decoder wired in to the old RSD-15. Not the most space sensitive but good to practice on before advancing on. Currently wiring in all the track power to the connecting blocks.
Main Street of the Northwest
Today was a monumental day! DCC was achieved and the whole layout runs great! Here's SP 252 and my Frankenstein RSD-15 running. Small victories right?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Eureka Coast Route! Welcome to Fields Landing, CA! Well a proto-lance version anyway. The real NWP served a couple industries here, but the ECR will have a bigger presence. The pink is gone! Hooray scenery! Best wishes to everyone in 2025!

One thing though; those yards are very hard to get to. You litterary can only run counter clockwise on this railroad to be able to take cars in and out of the sidings. You should have a cross-over from the inside curve back to the outside, prefferably on the left side in the middle, right before the 3 track sidings are. Otherwise things will be very frustrating for you.
Another option is (but that's a very tight fit) is to have run around switches at the 3 track yard itself. As it is right now you can only push freight cars around that long loop to that far yard.

It's definitely not perfect, but I did want the option for continuous running. For operations I view the loop as the runaround track though it's not ideal either. I didn't want to add yet more track as it is almost too much as it is.

Laying out the structures as you can see taking a good chunk of space to make that classic Americana main street. The real Fields Landing only had a couple commercial buildings so the street is more akin to Ft Bragg. I'm sure the industry areas on either end of main street are too close together and to the other buildings but I've got limited space and I think it will be fine once some road and sidewalk goes on.
Are the buildings that are all white 3-D prints?
Main Street of the Northwest
Yes either etsy or outland from Amazon.

After marking out building locations so I can lay ballast later i threw some rough base coats on the west end industries.
Neat layout, have you considered raising the branch line just a little?
That would add visual appeal with the terrain and provide separation from the main, like the train is going somewhere else.

First attempt at ballast. Solid C+ job I'd say, but more to do of course.

I had but the layout is so small it'd be more work than I thought worth it for any elevated section, plus then a cut of cars would just roll downhill onto the main instead of sitting there ready to go to industries. Next layout will be more varied I'm sure but this is good to learn on.

Almost all the ballast on. I'm still not very good at it but that's ok. Just a small length on the mainline and the small siding.

Question for the forum, I was thinking of laying down some risers for my industry close to the small siding, a 1/8" balsa block to basically be a concrete pad, would you put it in then ballast or just not worry about it and carve it to match up with the angle once it's on
