DW's cushion coupler pocket screws

Does anyone know what size screw is used on the details west cushion coupler pockets? I was going to install a set on my custom shoving platform/transfer caboose but realized i didn't have screws. Its an angled flathead screw opening.

And also who makes lift rings for the long hoods of GE units? I have a set of Detail Associates but starting to not like the plastic ones. Was hoping there were metal ones.

Cal Scale has brass lift rings. I like the plastic ones since they have a little give when the engine is handled. The brass ones tend to snap off.

Don't know about the coupler pocket screw but I suspect it would be a 2-56, which is pretty standard for coupler pockets.
 
i checked on bowsers site and they didn't have anything listed for GE diesels?

I tried to use the DA ones, they dont give any instructions on how to install them. I just starred at the package wondering how do you put these on?
 


someone had mentioned BLMA N scale lift rings. I cannot see how N scale lift rings would even look good on an HO model.

I don't even know what they are - yet but I will as I just ordered my first loco.

someone pointed me to Utah Pacific lift rings. THere brass and look pretty good. I wish I could see an actual picture and not company drawing.
 
This engine has Utah Pacific lift rings. They are the only brass ones I like because the have a much longer and fatter stem so they are easy to secure with CA from inside the shell and not prone to snapping off. You use a #78 drill bit to get the correct size hole. BTW, lift rings are pretty much lift rings. There's really no substantial difference between GE and EMD lift rings, at least at HO scale dimensions.
 
Josh, true, those lay flat GE models are different but they are nearly invisible on a model. I'd model the round lift rings and call it good but I'm not the detail fanatic that you are. :)
 


well i know im not really a detail freak or anything like that. But this custom project im still working on is like my baby. Im trying to detail it as best as I can to represent a modern "what if" GE built it and a particular railroad was still around to buy it. I usually dont got to this extreme, but the molded ones were very crappy and not really noticeable.
 
Steve, what model of GE engine are you building? The foldover lift rings were only found on late model GE's.
 
Not sure what to tell you on this, Steve. The few top down pictures I've found of the P42 show some with typical round eye lift rings, some with a mix of round eyes and folding types, and some with no discernible lift rings at all. I think you're going to have to get a prototype phot of your engine number and model accordingly.
 
well the 2 models im going to be finishing up hopefully soon had the folding triangular shapped lift rings. The round eye i've seen on the ge freights but not on the amd103's. I will look at the proto photos for the 2 amtrak phase 5 i have.
 
well i finally got the Utah Pacific GE lift rings. They are exactly what I was looking for. You can see thru the triangle shaped rings and probably adjust them a tad so they are not exactly flush to the shell. Also won an ebay auction for 3 athearn amd103 shells. Guy forgot to ship it on time so he said he'd add some extra stuff. He added another shell and every single detail part that would normally come with it if bought from athearn. Was very surprised since it was supposed to be just the 3 shells and windows.

Now my even more custom project can slowly begin now that I have all these shells to work with.
