Does anyone recall Jim Paine's Durham and Southern model railroad? It was featured in MR several times as an interchange road with the now-defunct Virginian & Ohio of Allen McClelland, but I don't recall anything online like a website or anything. I've been researching the Appalachian Fallen Flag layouts for inspiration lately (V&O, AM, Va Midland, Appalachian & Ohio, etc) and the D&S crossed my thoughts.
I think it was before the uptake of the internet, which is why there is very little info apart from the original magazine articles.
IIRC, it was mentioned in the original V&O articles in RMC during the 80's, (which became the V&O Story book), that even back then the D&S had been dismantled for several years.
I have the V&O Story and the original articles as well, and I must've missed it. I have an MR with the Durham & Southern on the front cover and I am pretty sure it's dated 1968 or some date similar.
Bowser has released a three car hopper set lettered for the D&S about a year ago; I think, Lord willing, I will get them as Eastern traffic.
I have an old RMC from December 1970 that has a wonderful story on Jim Paine's D&S. It is also the cover for this issue which I still have and continue to read from time to time. What a beautiful layout which must have been heartbreaking to dismantle. Also a cool story on the WAG in this issue.
