I know this thread has not been touched in a few months, but those houses look amazing. They are a must have when it comes time for me to add homes to my layout. Are these hard to find models and do they have more than the two?

The two houses come in the kit with all the details. Unfortunetly DPM (Design Preservation Models) Does not sell these houses outside of the kit without the details and these are the only two houses that they have. I got the kit off ebay but any hobby shop should be able to order it in.

If the kit comes with the two houses and the etail pparts, then thats what I am looking for. Would you happen to know or could suggest other models that would fit the pre 1960's era?

Your best bet is to look through a Walthers catalog. That being said my layout is set in 1959 so I have many buildings from DPM a few walthers cornerstone structures and a number from woodland scenics

I just looked through Woodland Scenics site and found quite a few buildings that I'd love to have. Are the WS ones hard to build?

I have not set a exact year as I would like to run steam and diesels including upto the GP40's

The Woodland scenic buildings are cast metal structures. they require a fair amount of cleanup with a file and all the painting is by hand (lots of detail) I assemble them using CA glue and 5 minute epoxy. Hard to build? Well they are time consuming but I've never had to beat my head against a wall to build one.

Lol, sounds like something I could do a little bit at a time. Need to get a small compressor and airbrush. Since painting is required, and I have never dealt with painting a metal model, what type of paint would be good to use? I know, lots of questions...lol

With a metal kit I usually primer it with a light grey primer (the cheap wal-mart stuff is best. The you can use the paint of your choice. all my details are painted using the acrylic water-based paints that come in the plastic bottles. I use an airbrush because I have one. spray paints can work just as good if used in thin coats.

Heres a link to the Tuck Brothers Machine shop kit that I built to give you an Idea of what it takes to build one:

Thank you for all the info you have given me. I am still in the planning phase, but this would give me a project to do in the mean time.
