The original version of this poll was initiated almost 5 years ago, in January 2005, by Bob H. I wasn't using DCC at the time and wasn't sure if I'd ever be able to swing it, and that was how I 'voted'. Well, a lot has changed since those days, for me at least - and probably for many others as well. So I wanted to revisit the topic and give myself and others a chance to vote again, reflecting their present-day situation.
I've gone from not having DCC back then, to having a 5-amp wireless system with two extra throttles for my guest operators to use. It really has added a whole new dimension to my enjoyment of the mrr hobby, and wasn't as difficult to get into as I originally feared!
How about you?
P.S. Hey mods - can one of you please correct my misspelling of 'September' in the poll question?
I'm still on standard DC although my layout is designed with DCC in mind. I also bought Athearn locos with quick plugs. Plan to get a Digitrax system at some point in teh near future.
Out of a fleet of 107 locomotives, all but 35 have DCC. Of those 35, 13 are not DCC ready, and will require frame mods to enable DCC use (N scale). The rest are arranged in order or installation, currently about one a week. Next week's project is an Atlas B23-7.
I still have about 10 locomotives that need decoders but all the rest are DCC. I won't buy anything now that's either not DCC equipped or has a plug. I've done enough soldering to last a lifetime with some of those decoders. I started back in the hobby just about three years ago now and was straight DC because that's all I ever knew. I kept reading about this DCC stuff and bought a Bachmann E-Z Command as a cheap way to try it out. I was hooked. DCC makes things so much easier when it comes to running a layout. Given where we were five years ago, I suspect DCC will be the standard five years from now and DC will be the odd man out.
1st I had DC. Then a Mann-made CTC system (Oh, those days were dark!)
I've been DCC exclusivly for 9 years, but ran on the club system for a year prior. Then over the next 12 months converted all 76 engines to DCC. Nice part was that doing installs for other folks helped to finance my new "addiction". There for a while I was converting 5-10 locos a week! Boy, I'm glad that has died down a bit!
The last 14yrs of my 33yrs in MR has been DCC. I could not go back to DC, it is just to hard and no fun at all for me.
I started with a Lenz system, 3yrs ago bought an ECOS which I connect the Lenz system to for walk around throttles.
For those thinking about DCC it is not as expensive as you might think.
Believe it or not DCC is easier to operate than a DC layout with masses of block switches. A lot easier to wire a DCC layout too.
Digitrax DCC for the locomotives but I'm still using my MRC DC/AC power box connected to KATO switch controls to control my turnouts. All my locomotives are DCC most with sound also.
