I wanted to know what tricks are used to keep from having scenery look like it’s when you glue the scenery materials like grass and dirt. I’ve found that the scene looks like it just rained but I was hoping to get the scene to look like a dry summer day. Anyone have tips or would like to share how they’ve overcome this problem I would love to hear about it.
Thanks,
Dave

Woodland Scenics, scenic cement works. Never had the issue you speak of with scenery products on the market, though real dirt looks a tad wet.

Hi Dave: Is this something like the look you want? DJ.

Here is a link to the post I'm doing that has photos of what I'm doing so you can see what it is I'm talking about.

Josh,
I noticed my problem is mostly where I use real dirt.

Dul cote may help and it will hold stuff in place.

Grampys - I really like the work you did in that photo. How did you do the grass area? Did you just throw it down or take time laying a little at a time?

Dave

Cheap non-scented hair spray will also cut down the shine and will help hold things in place. It also works good on trees.

Thanks, here's the colors I used: Earth blend, green blend, fine:med, dark, soil, green grass, weeds, and burnt grass. Med. green coarse turf, and burnt grass static grass flock.DJ.

I use real dirt and rocks and every once in a while some WS shaker foam. All glued with water, glue, and dish soap. If you're still getting a sheen once dried then I suspect you're using too much glue in your mix. When I glued mine I had puddles, but once that went away it was all good with no sheen.

When you say no sheen after it's dry do you still have a darker color because it's still wet looking? I noticed I don't have the sheen but it looks darker/wet.
Dave

same color before and after. you should still be able to break it up after glued not have created a hard chunk of mud. Ease up on the glue and see what happens, you can always add more.
