Hi all,
I have a question about decoders. I have recently gone from DC to an NCE PowerCab DCC setup. I have two old HO Atlas/Kato RS3s with can motors and two flywheels that I want to install decoders in. They've always run great on DC. Sound would be a plus, but not imperative. I'm more concerned with getting the right decoder and the installation.
Has anyone done this on the above mentioned units, or have suggestions on specific information sources?
Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Dave

If you want Sound, get the QSI Revolution decoder setup for an Alco 539 diesel engine. If you want just a standard Decoder, you cant go wrong with a Digitrax DH123.

Thanks! That's the info I was looking for. It's hard to find the right decoder among the miriad out there, especially for older equipment.

Dh165a0

Dave about 6 months ago I bought and installed 3 Digitrax DH165A0 DCC decoders in my RS-3’s. They replace the old DC power and light board. I didn’t by the Digitrax sound bug that could be pluged into the board but you could ask someone else about that installation. They also make a DH165K0 for Kato products.

George,
Thanks for the info.
I'll check them out as well.
Does anyone have experience with the sound bug install, etc?

Dave

I've got 2 (without sound) that are running NCE DASR decoders. Practically silent except for ckicks at rail joints. :)
Another has sound (Soundtraxx LC) but OMG! it was a tight fit.
