DecoderPro and Indexed CVs - no computer interface

A little expansion of my attempted help for Andy in N scale. He has what I suspect is a BEMF problem with decoder settings but this might help others as well.

======================
Decoder Pro - usefull without a computer interface
Using DP to determine CV for a certain function

Download and install DP
Run DP and click on "service mode programming"
Select "Decoder"
e.g. "QSIndustries / QSI Articulated Steam Ver. 7 / QSI Magnum Articulated Steam"
Open Programmer
Select target page e.g. "BEMF"
Enter unique values in say 3 consecutive fields e.g. Mid Range BEMF (some decoders have 3 and some 2 for mid range)
Select tab "Indexed CVs"
Scroll until you find your unique values and look at name to see the complete CV.PI.SI
Then to your control unit to check and modify the CVs.

======================
Indexed Configuration Variables CV.PI.SI
Note : Using Quantum decoder and Digitrax Zephyr for reference.

Indexed Variables -see Quantum reference.

BEMF (Back ElectroMotive Force) uses CV56.PI.SI

PI (Primary Index) is referenced using CV49

SI (Seconday Index) is referenced using CV50

Read Mid range BEMF settings in 56.20.0 and 56.20.2

Set CV49 to 20
set CV50 to 0
Read CV56 (56.20.0)____________________

Set CV49 to 20
set CV50 to 2
Read CV56 (56.20.2) ____________________

======================

Then if you don't like the values you find, repeat the process only writing new values.

take care ,,, ken

I wanted to say thanks again LotoQuestions and you others that offered help with troubleshooting my 2 8 8 2 issues.
I'm kinda embarrassed and happy at the same time. Finally had the oppertunity to run down to the LHS and run it on their test track, prepared to purchase a decent DCC unit or new DCC board. I was happy to hear that I was being too picky and that the loco wasn't broken in all the way yet. :o Whoops.
LOL, anyways, I have been running it back and forth on the test track, it is improving. Now onto the mods.......
Thanks again!
