Decoder won't allow 4-digit addressing...why?

Not a major problem [since the loco road number is 60], but for the life of me, I cannot setup my decoder for 4-digit addressing, even though the mfgr's documentation claims to support it.

I assigned all the correct values:

CV29=34
CV17=192*
CV18=60*

If I leave CV29 at 6 and set CV1 to 60, it works fine. But as soon as I change CV29 to 34, the loco doesn't respond at all.

* Using the [49152-plus-road-number / 256] quotient-and-remainder formula

Am I overlooking something? This setup has always worked for me on other decoders...

Thanx in advance,

Ken, 01-127 has to be programmed as two-digit. I ran across this awhile back. It won't affect anything by having some as 2 digit and some as 4 digit.

Hmmm...."facinating" as Spock would say on Star Trek!

That's what I'd always assumed before, until somewhere along the line, I read (or thought I read?) that for consisting, the units had to be either all 2-digit or all 4-digit. In any event, I exposed that myth by consisting 2-digit #60 with 4-digit #227 without any problems. Except, the old bluebox is such a crappy runner that I may have to put in a higher-quality motor, if I want to MU it with my Katoes & Atlases.

Thanx Rex!
