Based on member requests, I've now enabled dark mode for the default Xenforo theme.

It does exactly what the name implies, you can turn it on with one click and you can switch it off any time you'd like.

To activate, look for the "style variation" switch at the very bottom of the page:

Choose dark and it switches to dark mode. To switch back, choose either "system" or "light".
"Light" is the default look. "System" will adapt to whatever you have your system settings set to. This is probably more useful on mobile devices.

System mode leaves the theme light or dark depending on your system settings. Choosing Light or  Dark overrides your system choice. The icon at the bottom will change according to your choice and is shown to the left of the text (see above snapshot).

I am with Willie and Bruette, it is nice to have a choice, but it is not for me. It sort of disorients me, after a lifetime of reading black fonts on white.

I only use the forum on Desktop, so I never even considered it. But lots of people use iPads and phones and in low light conditions it can be useful. It's something most people won't even notice, but it's there for those that want it.

In related news.... There is no XenForo iOS app. Instead it's designed to be "responsive" and adapt to whatever browser you may be using.

Responsive design

When the system detects a small browser viewport, as found on mobile devices, the user interface automatically adjusts into a space-optimised configuration using a principle called responsive design.

Multi-column layouts are replaced with single columns, clickable controls are made larger to facilitate touch-based browsing and secondary controls that would otherwise clutter the interface are relocated into menus and other visible-on-demand elements.

BTW, if your view went dark after this feature was added by bob, then you already have a dark theme enabled either in your system settings and/or your browser settings. Depending on other settings, this could change based on time of day; light for daylight hours, and dark for nighttime hours.
