Looking for the most detailed d & rgw 3000 series boxcar kit I can find, preferably wood. Looking for something similar to the one profiled in the recent "Modeler's Annual." Any suggestions?

I assume you're talking narrow gauge. What scale? There are a number of different models available in HOn3, On3, and 1/20 scale.
 
Since you said you're looking for a kit, might I suggest the old Tomalco's. I have one of their pipe gons in On3, and its a very, very nice kit. All detail is separately applied styrene castings. There were over 100 in this kit, mostly of the draft gear and brake components.

Although you did say wood, you may want to look at some of the newer kits being cast in resin. F&C has some NG. I think Sunshine does as well.
