Anything running on the AN these days? Heard the primary customer, Port St Joe Paper plant, shut down. Thanks!
It's now one of G&W's numerous shortlines, perhaps an email to them would get you an answer.

The Apalachicola Northern is now officially the AN Railway Company. All of the motive power except three elderly and poorly maintained GP15's have been sold off. There are still some chemical plants and small paper mills on the line but the future doesn't look bright.

Oops, one "p"...
Bummer but puzzling since GW usually doesn't buy RRs without a future. Do you know who bought the SW1500s?
The 716 and 719 were sold to the St. Marys RR, the remaining six going to Helms Leasing. When GW bought the AN, the paper mill at Port St. Joe was still operating and the AN had a lucrative coal contract from Chattahoochee to Palatka Fl, the site of the Seminole power plant. The paper mill is closed and the coal now moves by barge. They are down to about 2-3 trains a week to service the other small industries on-line. It seems like a matter of time before the line will be shut down for good.
