Today I finally got my crossing gates working perfectly. If you watched my latest video the Niagara Steam one you’ll notice the gates are still just a tad out of sink. I originally thought the tortoise would complete there full motion cycle when it’s current is reversed. I was wrong. If a tortoise encounters any residence they stall and do not complete the cycle. Turning the pot to lower the voltage on the Logicrail control board makes them stall even faster. The Walthers gates take very little movement to complete the up down cycle. Your not suppose to move the control bar on the tortoise by pushing it manually, but when I started out with both control bars centered everything became in sink. I found the control bar moves very little from this centered position and the gates complete their cycle. In the Walthers instructions they stay to put a V in the gate’s control wire to act as a buffer. On some other type motors you might need this but with a tortoise is not needed, it will stall before it pulls anything apart. Now that I have everything fixed and have a new Atlas Gold Conrail GP-40-2 coming I’m going to add some details, control shed, battery boxes etc. and redo the first crossing video.
