I'm looking for a good guide to study that shows how to convert older DC locos to DCC. Being a bit strained for money im thinking it may be better for me to buy older engines and wire them my self rather than buying the newer ones with sound and all that. Granted sound is well wanted but if it can be put off till later...
I have been looking around but so far I'm empty.
Here it is strait from the NMRA
http://www.nmra.org/standards/DCC/standards_rps/DCCStds.html Look for the PDF of Electrical Interface and Wiring color code. All you need is the color code. Pretty much every manufacturer I have seen uses these codes. If that is not as in-depth as you need, try searching "DCC wiring" in google. There are lots of tutorials out there. I want to add a word of caution. Be careful with older engines. Some of my prized engines are older Riveraossi and some Atthern Bluebox. They will run on DCC no problem, but they don't like it. The motors were not designed to be pulsed. Like I said, they will run fine, but I have found you need to set a high starting voltage (2-4 volts).
Thanks man, that's bookmarked now. i hope to start working on my collection in the coming months.
