Chris: that little squirt sure is a cutey. Better keep him tied down...he may fly off with those big ears. LOL :D

Evening, everyone.

Rex, sounds like you got it too. Gravity wave is the more accepted term today. It's when organized convection is forced by convergence associated with a gravity wave, while latent heat release within the convection provides a source of wave energy. Convection amplifies the wave trough by compensating subsidence and enhances the wave ridge by evaporative cooling of precipitation. All this mean that the a line of thunderstorms cools rapidly on the back side of a front and releases the heat energy in the form of wind. It's a phenomena that's fairly common in the south and central plains but uncommon elsewhere. It sure did a job on us. Thankfully, it looks like the squall line that I feared would be even worse has failed to organize and we should only get a few garden variety thunderstorms tonight.

LTF, sounds like you had a fine Easter. Do they ever induce horses if they fail to deliver within a certain amount of time? Those things sound way more complicated than my fish. :)

Chris, cute little dog but he looks like a cab driving down the street with both doors open. :D

Chris--the dog looks really cute. It was about the same size that 'Putzi' was---that dang thing wasn't afraid of anything---It would run up to 'Baby', our 25lb part bobcat and yip in the cats face --only to be sent flying by 'Baby's' backpaw. Then you'd hear it yipping at 'Baby' again---this was their game I guess---

We're getting rained on. The temperature is s'posed to get to 13C today and by the end of the week go up to 18C. Shorts will be on then---:):):)Even Saturday is sunny and 18C:):)--of course, the forcast for Sunday's Trainshow in Woodstock ON, which will occur the same weekend as the Niagara Frontier's NMRA's 'Woodstock Turn' convention is calling for rain/snow and a high of only 4C then:mad::mad:--Monday however will be all sunny and 9C:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Good morning folks

It was 42 F as I headed out onto the wet roadways this morning. Our high today will be 49 F with rain on and off all day and tomorrow.

Last night I had to attend a Parents Meeting for the Boy Scout Troop my son is crossing over to in a couple of weeks. The meeting was to discuss their upcoming events including Summer Camp that my son will be doing. The rest of the night was spent helping my son with his book report and my daughter with her application for the Engineering Team at school.

At work it looks like a clam day. Most likely it is the calm before the next storm.

Tonight is my daughter’s flute lesson. She has her recital in a week and a half. We also have Cub Scout Roundtable. Then I have to finish the State Income Taxes.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Mornin Gang!
Ahh, new digs huh? Expresso too? Flo, I'll just have some regular leaded for today. Simple country boy don't need no fancy-shmancy coffee.
Looks like a day of temps in the upper 40's and rain, rain, rain all day.:( I'm staying inside! I should go out on a tool search though. The other day the big Deere broke a generator belt and in the process of chewing it up put a hole in the radiator. I pulled the radiator and got it fixed, and have it all back together. One problem, the nut that hold the belt tight wont get tight enough to stay without the proper wrench. I got it off with Channel Locks, but they wont hold tight enough to reseat it right. So I guess I'm off to find a 1 1/2 inch open end wrench. Hopefully my Uncle, who had a farm about 1/2 hour from here has one, if not I'll be spending bucks for one.:(
Also I've gotta get a new blade for the little Deere. I caught a root mowing the back field and broke a 2 inch chunk out of the blade! 2 mowers now broken, and 20 minutes of fussing with the Cub Cadet (major POS:mad:) just to get it running the other day to finish the mowing!!!
For a while I can play inside though. I sold my Mom's car for her and the buyer is coming around lunchtime to pick it up, so I can play all morning!:D
Mom hasn't driven in months (she's 83), my sister and I are thier Taxis and take her & Dad where they need. Nobody could see the sense in paying insurance and tags on it. It sat here taking up space in my garage! Space I can use for my cars! Plus it was only 3 years old with 4,717 miles on it. It sold fast!

Back to the weather, you southern guys sound like you had a doozie yesterday. Glad everyone is ok! Jim, that explaination was a little bit like Chinese Algebra to me!

Chris, if you get weather and wind like them, take the little pup outside with a long string tied to his collar, run him into the wind and Presto! Free kite!:D

Mikey, Sorry we didn't tell you we were moving. We kinda figured you would just follow the credit card receipts to us! :D

Hmmmmm,,,,what to get into next,,,,, Rehab one of the club modules, build a structure kit,(the house from Psycho), work on trackplans in 3rd planit, or finish the brass caboose kits,,,,,,,,decisions, decisions!!
Cya!

Good morning.

It's 46 and clear here in the Sportsman's Paradise. The high is due to be in the low 70's and it will be clear and sunny.

Weather Alert! Due to the presence of an unusually bright yellow orb which has yet to be identified it is suggested that outdoor activity be limited to short periods not to exceed 30 minutes at a time. Staying out longer can and has resulted in skin damage that while not fatal has been known to be very uncomfortable.

Spent part of yesterday working on locomotives, in particular lightly weathering one of my UP GP40's. I eventually got the effect I wanted, subtle and understated and not something that's going to jump out, grab your eyes and scream 'LOOK AT ME!'. I see too much of that on my friends layouts and to me at least it doesn't look good. Today I'll probably be busy cleaning up the layout. With all the projects I've been working on materials have gotten strewn about and are in the way.Even as heavy as they are my two SDP40F's don't take kindly to something like a paint brush lying on the track or a roll of solder for that matter. There's also numerous bits of paper and a myriad assortment of tools (Dremel, multimeter, drill bits, etc) that need to be policed up.

Today's Weather for:
Sundown, LA 71446-6114 4/14/2009

Wind Chill: 46°F
Humidity: 85%
Dew Point: 42°F

So Far Today
High: 53°F
Low: 46°F
Rain: 0.00"
Rain Rate: 0.00"/h
Gust: 8mph N

Today High: 72 Sunny. Highs in the lower 70s. North winds around 5 mph.

Tonight Low: 45 Clear. Lows in the mid 40s. Northeast winds around 5 mph.

My silly mare STILL hasn't had her little one.

however, its Cupcakes birthday today, she's TWO. I made carrotcake cupcakes in her honour, and had some friends over to celebrate. Hard to believe back only 2 years ago, I was down to just twelve horses, until she was born. number 13 in the barn, born on a Friday 13. of course, I named her Bakers Dozen.

now, I'm back up to 18, with #19 due to arrive any night now.

hey, at least I'm down from 26 this last winter.

fewer horses in the barn meanst a bit more time to play trains. its nice to have time for a second hobby!
Hey LTF, how is Hemmingway getting on? Bet you thought we forgot your promise to keep us updated. ;)

Good Morning All!

Chris...Rico is as cute as can be (love those ears) and your son looks pretty happy with his new buddy :D

Jim and Rex...Y'all are getting some huge winds! We get winds now and again, but a couple of weeks ago we had a freezing rain followed by high winds that caused the power to go out during church. Stayed out for about 3 hours. Wyoming is notorious for getting constant winds, but we're far enough into CO to miss most of it.

Went to an anniversary party on Sunday. A couple whom I introduced were celebrating their 30th. Great party...but I did notice that some of those folks are getting old! Just soooo sad!

Finally finished my taxes yesterday. Since I owe the state a bit, I am thinking that I will forward the bill to the Sec of the Treasury. He seems to be good at avoiding the IRS ;)

Hope you all have a terrific week!

Sandy

oh dear.

I'm sorry to tell you that we lost HEmmingway on Jan. 21. Old age caught up to him. I went to feed in the morning, and he was listliss, all his vital organs were beginning to shut down. Liver, kidneys, almost no pulse even.

so I had the vet out for him.

he was a lovely old horse. we all miss him here. but he had a VERY good last few weeks.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
no baby yet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLOWNOUTCYLINDER!!!

there's a train show in WOODSTOCK?????

when? where? give details! I can take next Sunday off, its only 45 minutes away from me.

only thing that will stop me is if Gossip decides to have her baby that morning. or looks WAY closer.

I need rechargeable batteries for my camera. and a charger.

Cheers LTF. Sad, but as you say he went off a happy horse. Good luck on the new arrival. you WILL be providing a pic or two, won't you.

thanks, it was sad, but certainly not unexpected. He was a good 40 years old!!!!

and now, there will be a new little one. circle goes on. :)

found the woodstock directions. I will BE there! what fun. :D

LTF Woodstock trainshow is this Sunday at the Oxford Auditorium in the Woodstock Fairgrounds between 10am to 3pm----just off Dundas Street on Nellis. The fairgrounds are on right side of Dundas a block north, if heading in from east side. I'd get off Dundas St as soon as you get to the Goodwill store. If you are coming from London, Goodwill is to your left. Turn left there. Hopefully these stupid instructions work---I think the admission is $4.

BTW--Tnx for reminding---need to do same for my camera----got new card but forgot batteries----GGRRR

Well, It has been a Good Easter's here:) Got some pic's of our new family member to show you too:D

Meet, my sons dog........

Rico is 8 weeks old and weights 1 pound:eek: He ain't going to get much bigger either:eek: What he lacks in size he makes up in spunk:eek: Our older dogs are getting use to him. He can stand up under Jerry:eek::eek::eek::eek: That is so funny to see got to get a picture of that.
Chris, is he going to grow into those ears, or is he going to fly whenever there's a hurricane in the neighborhood?
He's a cute one.

I'm slowly getting the work materials and tools off the layout. At least I'll be able to see all of the layout again and be able to do some running of the trains. Won't be long though before I start cluttering it up again with work materials and tools.

Good afternoon shop dwellers!

'Tis a wet one up here in the Mid 'Lantic today as Tom mentioned. Even with my leather jacket on I was frezzing my *** off walking from the parking lot to my office - I'm ready for some of that "global" warmth! From all the posts I've been reading, it looks like everybody had a great Easter. My kids got all the junk food they'd been hoping for and my 10yr-old was puking much of it back out at 1:00am Monday morning; maybe she'll learn from the experience?

Dan - glad to hear the car is operational again, it's always rough having to do without - especially if one lives in a rural area like I do!

Chris - cute dog, I never seen one of that breed as a puppy until I saw the pix you posted. I bet your boy could probably carry him around in his shirt pocket, ya think?

LTF - Hope you can get to the Train Show before gossip's young'un arrives. And I 'second' the call for photos!

Boc - that's Murphys Law, the nice weather only happens when it's time to go to work.

Jim/Rex - seems like you guys have been getting clobbered lately by the weather, hope you get thru the rest of it unscathed

Karl - sounds like your facing some tough choices there! BTW I got a call from Glen, my stuff came in - looks like I'll be making a detour thru Winfield on my way home tonite!

Still working on structures for my business district, I'm doing my Rite-Aid building (M/R 3) right now - seems much easier than the M/R 1 that I did a few weeks ago. I also finished painting the building that I bought in Timonium, I'll post the pix in next weekend's WPF

while we're waiting, here's Gossip. looking ungroomed and "au naturelle". That is Cupcake (Bakers Dozen) behind her.

sorry thte photo is so LARGE!!!

Afternoon, everyone.

BOC, the only dog that ever seriously bit me was one of those little yappy dogs. He grabbed hold of me ankle and, by the time I finally got him off using pepper spray and my night stick, I had a laceration that took eight stitches to close up. Those little guys are pretty tough.

Tom, I hope your day was "clam". :) Nice to know there's another dyslexic out there.

Jeffrey, I actually saw the sun for about 10 minutes this morning before the clouds moved back in. Looked kind of weird after no seeing sun for the past week or so. I need to clean up my layout to. Lots of dirt and debris have accumulated from not being run for a while.

Sandy, it was quite a little breeze. I can imagine what this place looks like after a hurricane now. Just wait a few years...people having their 30th will start looking younger to you. :D One of the "advantages" of losing money in the market is I ended up owing no taxes this year. I think it will be the first time I haven't paid income tax since I was 17.

LTF, sorry to hear about Hemingway but he had a good life to have made it 40 years. As you say, the circle continues unbroken with the new ones coming along. I hope you make it to the train shows. Just ignore the geeks and nerds. All of us here are not like them...mostly.

Ken, it's "Climate Change" now, not "Global Warming". Makes them right no matter what happens. The MR3 building is by far easier than MR's 1 & 2. I'll be interested to see what you come up with. Mine is pretty much vanilla from the box.

Karl, I always admire people who can just do things like pull radiators and fix them right up. Me and hand tools around cars almost never have a good result. :p

Cloudy but calm here today after a few showers last night. The "Big One" turned into nothing, as they seem to so often. Looks like we have a respite through Sunday, when another round of storms looks to be setting up. At least I finally got an almost complete night's sleep last night.

Wow, what a rainy day we had! A small tornado touched down 10 miles from work:eek: we only got 1" of rain but the wind and tornados that touch down from it was amazing! it got cool to 64* all day:eek:

Any who how, Ryan loves his dog and yes Ken He does fit in a shirt pocket:D Not that he sit's still long enough! He's my sons shadow:rolleyes: Funny dog to watch, he ain't scared of the other dogs:eek: He just rolls with them:D when he barks sounds like a bird chirping!

Terry those ears get satilite and cell phone signals:D!LOL's and yes with a good breeze he flys.........Kinda like the fling nun!
