Boy, was I surprised when this trailing unit showed up on the main! Does anyone have any information about it? It seems to be somewhat inspired by the DD40-AX experiment, but with three trucks and two prime movers. I wonder how long it will be before all the road units are upgraded? I guess the middle truck has been modified to accommodate lateral movement?

Is that a Google Steetview splice? I've seen some weird things there.

It appears to be a hoax. This diesel can't handle any curve without derailing. Something like this:

A little too modern for my era (1940's- 1960, but if I could kitbash 2-10-2's and 2-10-4's out of 2-8-2 Mantua steamers that will negotiate 18" radius curves and #5 turnouts, I probably could...just make all the center wheels blind. Oh, never mind! Come to think about it, the Santa Fe had a couple of articulated steam locomotives that hinged in the middle. They leaked too much and eventually were converted to switch engines or somesuch!
