Hi !

I'm looking for accurate passenger car of CN, it can be a kit or ready to roll
but i'm not interrested of "big" kitbash.

I don't have specific period... i just want to oldest as possible starting with
Pullman and older. I don't want to run them too, i just to collect some car.

I want to know if someone can help me the find accurate car in HO scale, witchbrand etc..

I enderstand that branchline are the more accurate ? and WAlthers not too bad ?

It is right ? Other idea ?

I find this on ebay... if anyone can tell me if it's accurate or not it can be
usefull for me.

The AHM car would not accurate at all. The roundhouse 34' car is really a narrow guage car scaled up for standard guage and it would also not be accurate. The two Roundhouse 50' open platform coaches would be typical of cars that ran in that period but, I can't say if that exact style ran on the CN.

If you want completely accurate CN passenger cars but of a more modern era, Rapido Trains is the place to go. They are a Canadian company and specialize in Canadian rolling stock. The car at http://www.rapidotrains.com/scl1.html is typical of cars that ran on the CN from the late 30's until the coming of VIA and some continued to run for VIA.

HI !

THanks for the help.

I don't want rapido, i just want more older.

If anyone call tell me about the roundhouse 50' i appreciate or any other idea.

Thanks !

How old in general? Because some of the Rapido stuff is pretty old.

Hi !

I want this car just for fun, in fact i have see them at St-Constant and smiths falls museum and i want have some because i find them beautifull.

My first idea it's to have the era of about 1890-1910 with the open deck at each side... but i think that it's impossible.

In the museum i see the "school car" and "dental car" i find them beautifull, inside and outside and i'm looking for car like that.

Thanks !

Ooo really old modeling.
Not exactly an expert in that, modern is more my thing...

*edges slowly out of thread*

Those Roundhouse 50' cars would certainly be close enough for what you need. I'd start searching the web for older CN cars and see what modifications you might need to make.

I don't think many people here model that era...
If you want, you can send me a PM to remind me to do some research on that when I have some more time.

Are you talking about a dental car that looks like this?

CN_15905.jpg

The CN had dental cars to serve remote parts of Ontario for almost 75 years. If it didn't look like this, give us a link to the museums where you saw those cars. We're kind of groping in the dark without more information.

Hi again Jim, yes it's exactly this one :)

I will check if the branchline look good for this one.... again.. if you have some information i appreciate !

THanks !

OK, now we're getting somewhere. That car is not as old as the open platform Rounhouse cars. It was put in service on the CN as a coach about 1925 and converted to a dental car about 1950. It was retired in about 1970. It started like the coach at http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/181-5704. There are no models available of it when it was converted to a dental car. You, or someone you pay, would have to add the details, paint, and decals to have it match the car in the picture.

Hi !

I now that it's not so old.... but at date a did not find anything more old that the "pullman", i enderstand that the dental care are probably not "original" car, the major difference with the model that you show it's on the real dental care... one side are open, few windows are not corect.. maybe that CN modify them.

I don't ask "miracle" , the regular car can be good for me too if a "special" car are to dificult to build in HO scale. I'M just looking for "accurate" car and the more old as possible.... more it's old.. more it have history :)

I can be interrested to some CP too.

My question on this model is to know if CN had use " 80' Paired Window Coach " and if it's accurate for CN.

The picture are hard to find and it's not easy to compare them.

I order a book called " Canadian National Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment, Volume 1

Probably that i must fnd more explanation on that.

I see that branchline make :

78' Single Window Coach : nothing for CN... probably that CN never use this car ?

78'Paired Window Coach : that you give a link.... probably good ?

10-1-2 Pullman Sleeper : no cn ?

8-1-2 Pullman Sleeper : 3 different number/name ... it's this one that i order... hope that it's good ?

14 Section Pullman Sleeper : no cn ?

12-1 Pullman Sleeper : 3 CN.. it is good ?

6-3 Pullman Sleeper : no cn ?

10-1-1 Pullman Sleeper : no cn too ?

If you can help me with this model... i appreciate.

Thanks !

Hi !

I have starting my model it's the "morning glory" 8-1-2

Someone know if the air conditioning is the type " Pullman mechenical " " mechanical Brine air conditionner" or "Ice Air conditionner" ?

Any help is welcome again

Thanks !

It could be any of the three, depending on what year you're trying to duplicate. Ice air conditoners were the earliest type, used in early 1930's, and had to be restocked with ice at strategic points along the route. Mechanical brine air conditioners were more common in the late 1930's. They used a continuous circulation of brine as a cooling medium. The brine didn't get used up as fast as ice but it was also very corrosive so it didn't last long in service. By 1946, almost all passenger cars had a mechanical air conditioning system that used steam produced by either a steam engine or steam generator in a diesel. That lasted in Canada much longer than in the US since steam was still needed to heat the cars in the cold Canadian winters. In the US, true freon air conditioners were used by the time Amtrak arrived. Later cars had mechanical heat pumps that could supply either cold or warm air but heat pumps don't work well below zero so Canada stuck with steam until the 1990's, when electric heaters were developed that could deal with the cold temperatures. The Pullman style mechanical air conditioner would be the most common type to find on Canadian cars after 1940.

HI !

I'm going with Ice air conditoners !

Thanks for the information, very nice description

Ice was also used for refrigerated cars, so I think you'd be able to use a standard icing dock (at least I think that's what you call it) for reicing, unless they looked different or something?
