Here are some pictures of an SW8 that I have been working on. I purchased it on ebay with DCC and sound in SOO colors.

It looked pretty cool in SOO colors, but I wanted a yard switcher for my future layout, and I am modelling the CEMR here in Manitoba, so I completely disassembled it (there are a lot of pieces!) and stripped the paint off.

I always remember seeing the old CN units with the spark arrestors, and seeing as the CEMR uses a lot of ex-CN equipment, I thought I would go with them on my SW8. I cut off the old stacks and filled the holes. I then attached the spark arrestors. I also filled the hole in the cab where the previous owner had installed a beacon, and added new horns and an antennae. All the detail parts were from Miniatures By Eric.

I then painted the body and cab gloss black and laid out and printed the decals. After the paint was dry I applied the decals and sprayed everything with acrylic matte clear. The reference picture is of a similar unit owned by CANDO, who also owns CEMR.

Here is the assembled body and the truck frames after I had given them a bit of weathering. It's a PIA to reinstall the Proto 2000 plastic grab rails!

Here is the finished unit along with the caboose that I had modified previously. The decals have a different finish because I used Testors paper this time. Next up in the fall is unit 4001, the GP9 conversion!

Great looking loco Gary!
You'll have to bring it over some day for an op session.
(when the layout is rebuilt that is)
