Building the RK&M III: The Mountain

Part of the layout that I have been working on is an area that I called the mountainside. It is not much of a mountain but it the best that the RK&M has got. On one side of the mountain there are three houses along the road as seen here:

This area has sat dormant for about five months now as I worked on the other side of the mountain now known as Drexel Ridge.

Now is the time to revive the mountainside layout construction.

First thing I worked on was the wall for the blue house.

I carved the mortar lines with a razor knife.

Next I painted the wall with Folk Art Light Gray.

Then using a brush I dabbed on the following colors in order (all Folk Art):
• Barn Wood
• True Burgundy
• Dark Gray
• Raw Umber
• Settlers Blue.

Then I did it a second time in the same order.

Next I went over the wall with a wash made from one part Raw Umber and one part blue windshield washer fluid.

After that dried I went over with a wash of one part Linen and one part blue windshield washer fluid. This time I wiped off the wash before it dried.

Tom, nice work going on. The rock wall looks very weathered and real. It's all going to make a great scene.

Yeah Tom those houses are neat, I see the folks in the blue house have re-mortgaged and are adding an extension, maybe he's building a bigger layout?:D

Ken.
