Building a track helix

Instead of hexagonal, mine just used arcs of plywood about seven inches across. I had a double main, so it needed to be that wide. To get height, AND separation between ramps, I simply used small blocks of 1X2 for risers or pylons.

I built two of them but like Selector mine was arc cut from 1/4 in osb then 1/2 in homasote glued to it used threaded rods for the spacing Both of mine are single track The small piece of plywood holding up the helix is just setting there the track just floats on it Been there for years never any problems

I didn't bother with the translation, but I have seen helix's built with this method. Nothing wrong with them, work just as well as the arc construction. Their real advantage is that they make much more efficient use of the plywood or other material used.

Yes actually I made a couple exactly like this!
As Willie mentioned it’s a very efficient way to cut plywood.
