And rode the local train from Palermo to Cefalù…

An interesting but short trip that captured arid vistas and seaside panoramas.
However, on the way there I was too tired to take pics…
And on the afternoon return, with a pizza and a couple beers in my belly I fell asleep 😴

Joan and I bought Amtrak tickets for our train ride in a week. We are traveling from South Bend, Indiana to Chicago to Deadwood, South Dakota. We will be there for 4 days. I really like the America west in the days of the gunslinger (1866 thru 1900 {but I like 1875-1890}). There were probably plenty of gunfights in Deadwood; but most notably was what happened on August 1, 1876. Wild Bill Hickok was playing poker at Nuttal & Mann's Saloon. He normally sat with his back to the wall when he played so that he could watch the entrance. On that particular day, the only open seat had it's back to the entrance. After being dealt A pair of Aces and a pair of eights, a local drunk named Jack Mc Call entered the saloon and shot Hickock in the back. The poker had latter was to be known as the Dead Man's hand. While in Deadwood, we will drive to Sturgis and see the biggest ghost town in South Dakota after the 10 day motorcycle rally (Sturgis goes through 3 million gallons of beer during the rally). Joan will pick up a T-Shirt there (I was a biker in my earlier years).

After Sturgis we will go to Mount Rushmore. That place is eerie to me; it is so quite and peaceful there in the mountains (even knowing that there are Feds in the mountains looking down at us with guns trained on everyone). Then it is back on Amtrak in Minot, North Dakota. I was stationed at Minot AFB for 3 winters in the early sixties. That have an F-106 on display on base and I would like to show Joan what I worked on. I was a jet engine mechanic there. I also worked on the Minot Daily Newspaper there. Then, it is off the Seattle, Washington. We like Pike's Market there. You will always see flying fish there. Plenty of things to do in Seattle. Then back to South Bend Indiana. We travel by train exclusively, and always take a roomette. All the meals on the train are included and they have added 1 cocktail a day per person free. We haven't taken a train in about 6-7 years and this one is not very far compared with most trains that we have taken. Nevertheless, we have great fun in looking at the backyards of America. Next year we will be taking at least one major train ride a year....Joan is already planning that one. So we are both getting excited about the trip next week and the one next year.
