I was the same, so I got some old cheapie freight cars (spares or repair) to practice on, and I still use them.

Thanks, I haven’t done a loco yet…for much the same reason
Start out on a cheap car or something that you can practice on…
In the new year I will do a loco…

Yes, winter does present challenges…
though I was spraying Rustoleum Clear Flat outside at 0*C/32*F…

Yes…once you try out something, you can paint over them with a solid colour and try something else
