Black painters tape

Has anyone tried this for a cheap street and roadway material? If it's similar in texture to the blue type it might be a good alternative to the rather expensive (and small) sections made by Faller Gmbh.

It lifts up over time (after all, painter's tape isn't meant to be permanent), so it would make for a very nasty looking roadway. If you get any air bubbles in it, it would also have an odd texture to it. (bumps that are too large to be scale)

Why not try black duct tape? At the club, we use plaster for pavement, then we paint it black. For parking lots, we simply used some of the leftover black fascia board and painted lines in it.

Is it possible to dye plaster? It would probably take a LOT of black dye to even get the plaster to turn gray, but it might look like Sun bleached asphalt. Especially if the color distribution wasn't perfect.

Dyeing it is a pain, but it won't show white if you chip or crack it!

I probably should have said Black Masking Tape.

It's pretty much the same stuff as painters tape but uses a little stronger adhesive. Maybe it won't peel up as easily.

Anyone tried or given any thought to felt paper for roofing? The "15 lb" variety might be better than black masking tape for representing an asphalt road.
