I have a nice ho layout, but have allwayslike n scale also.so i started a n scale shelf layout attached to my ho layout.so it will be ten ft long.one end will be a yard and the other end will be a switching layout 5ft by 10 inches wide.they will be connected by a 2ft by 3 inche piece.lets say the best of both worlds.

I don't get it. It looks like you are using aluminum foil backed insulation panels for this? Why? The stuff is hard to work with and engines don't like little metallic pieces around them. I also don't understand how an N scale layout in front of an HO layout is going to look. It's the opposite of what's usually done. The smaller scale is used in the back to give a forced perspective of a longer distance.

well one the foil back is just for sound insulation.its insulation used on the side of houses for siding.there will be cork road bed put down so it won"t even come in contact with any of the the track.two ,i have a load of n scale engines and cars so i can run n when i feel like it or ho.its just something i wanted to do.not really worried about visual effect.just enjoy messing with both scales .

James, trust me, using that foil backed board is a mistake. It will come off in little pieces and get into your engines, glue won't stick well, and the fiberglass is hard to cut and itchy. Use plywood, extruded foam, anything, but not that aluminum stuff.

well heres a little update on my n scale project.added a 3 stall engine and rail repair.2 track yard, and soon a few industries on the other end.and testing a few engines.under the track is foam road bed which to me is easier to mold to tuns and bends.also track is nailed down.the test run was went smooth.
