Im getting ready to put down some roads on my layout. Heres what im looking at doing.

Im looking at a county road that leads in to the cities main street, main street then turns back into a county road again heading out of town. With the main street id like to add on both or just one side (havent decided yet) angled parking spots.

My question to you guys is, what road systems have you used in the past that worked best for you and looked most realistic?

Woodland Scenics Road System is the one i like the best and works the best for me. Just my opinion though. I have a tutorial on how i use the stuff and the results i get with the stuff if your interested in seeing it or havnt already seen it :D

to be honest I always like to make my own roads. the plastic roads I have seen dont turn out that great unless you get the seams to match flawlessly. I like to put some plaster down sand and add my own cracks and stuff. Much more easy in the long run and your options are endless. you can make your own curbs and sidewalks pretty simple also... just my .02

Not Joking here, but just plain old DIRT for unpaved country roads, or fine lime.

And for asphalt, I use roofing shingles, or rolled roofing, turned aggregate down.

For city areas, Walthers makes both brick and asphalt road systems that look great when they are done. Except for the brick roads for my downtown, all the rest of the roads are either styrene painted and weathered or, just like Bob says, plain old dirt I get from the yard. I've yet to see a really good dirt road that want made out of really good looking dirt. :)
