Best Hobby Shops on the Web

I ordered three P2K 4427's on Monday and they shipped on Tuesday. I'll report back when the order arrives.

The three cars that I ordered were reported as in stock at the time of purchase. They shipped the next day and arrived a few days later. A+ in my book.

Favorite Online Retailer

Just wondering who is your favorite online retailer? I just ordered 2 locos from this site tonight. The prices seem right, so I hope the service is just as good. And I have seen other guys on this forum say that they have ordered from this company, thought it was worth a shot.

I tried internettrains.com once but I didn't like it very much. Probably due to the fact that it took them so long to ship my stuff. I did get a few things from modeltrainstuff.com and it was great. Good prices too.

I got back into the hobby after a loooong layoff so I haven't done any internet buying with one exception. There are 2 local hobby shops that are very well stocked and anything I have them order I get in a week. The one internet buy I did was with Josh at www.maderstrains.com with whom I recently placed an order, some of which was a pre-order. Josh kept me informed as the items arrived and once filled he shipped promptly. Service and prices are very good and I'll order from him again.

I've used modeltrainstuff a number of times, they always have stock of the items I want at good prices. Their service is average, I've waited two days for a reply to an email but other than that no major complaints, all my parcels arrived intact with the correct goods shipped.

There was quite a long thread about on-line retailers here recently. You can find it at http://www.modelrailroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14459&highlight=modeltrainstuff. There's really no point in starting another one. As to your question, MTS has been a good site to order from, with discounted prices and decent shipping. If you review the thread I linked to, you'll see lot of information about good and bad retailers.

for some reason that thread is still not a sticky yet.
mods, consider washing and sticking the thread in question.

Thank you, Ken, you're a good man. :) I think we should keep our eyes out for good threads to make sticky and let you guys know about them.

Josh, its always a pleasure doing business with you buddy!!

Josh,

When will your site be back up?

The site was down for about a week while my hosting service switched servers and datacenters. When everything came back up and it was time to re-upload my site from the back-up file, nothing went right and nothing uploaded correctly, therefor my site was no more sadly :( I had spent months getting it to where it was, had over 2,000 items listed on the site. Now i find myself starting over from scratch, and well i just dont have the time right now. Im working a second job right now, 10-12 hour days working fro Con-Way Freight with my mother from home. The freight industry is HOT right now, alot to do with the holidays, so it makes us very very busy with LOTS of loads to find trucks for and move from point A to B in the US and Canada.

Im afraid I will not be able to do much else in the way of my website until after the new year when things slow down a bit with my second job. I really need to get my home page back up and in order since thats the first page you see when you go to my site, i just have not had the time to do so. Im still accepting orders through the forums, and you can send me an email at josh@maderstrains.com if your interested in ordering something. I do not have alot on my site right now, basically just the Walthers Steel Series and the new North American Ethanol Series kits. I am still able to keep up with emails and orders.

One thing is for certain, I am going to be getting an external hard drive and running my own back-ups for now on so something like this doesnt happen again.

Please bare with me and the website, and I will have things back up and running as soon as I can.

Thanks again to all who have and continue to do business with me, I really appreciate it.

Mike, Thank you as well for mentioning my shop, I really appreciate it, and it was a pleasure doing business with you. I look forward to dealing with you again!!

Josh,
i was wondering what is your work flow as far as your website. manual entry (hope not)? if things done properly i can't see this taking lots of effort. perhaps something can be optimized.

i am automation specialist and had a chance to work with an acquaintance on his website. he was migrating to newer version of his site and i made several procedures for data mining and formatting for later injection into his product database that otherwise had to be hand keyed. saved loots of time and human error.

so if interested let me know. pm'ing you my email.

yep, you did. what is left to do is either
a. wash it from non contributing posts like mine right here. pending mod's time availability.
b. OP, will be nice if you take the info gathered here and aggregate it into your initial post with that. that way the important info that got dragged into page 6 will not be lost.

just a suggestion though, i don't insist on either

Cool...I generated a sticky thread...

congratulations, spiderman.

Josh, how is your website set up? If it's set up in a way that I know how to code it, I can probably volunteer a couple hours of my time each week helping you rebuild your site.

Josh.....so if interested let me know. pm'ing you my email.

Hey Anton, i sent you an email a few days back, but i dont think you got it. I just re-sent it to the email addy you gave me in the PM, hopefully it went through this time

That would be awesome if your willing to spend a little time to help me :D

Im using the OpenCart shopping cart software. Its pretty basic, and has alot of stuff i really like about. In my opinion, its a good software. There is nothing really complicated about it, and entering items and uploading them are really pretty simple. It gives you a template to input information, and once you plug it into the template, all you have to do is hit "submit" and it uploads to the database and appears onto the site automatically.

If your interested in lending a hand and a few hours of your time, i would appreciate it greatly and be more then happy to show you how to use the software and upload items on the site. I think it would be easiest to do and explain over the phone, so i can PM you my phone number or you can get it from my website. If i dont answer, its probably cuz im slaving away dispatching drivers to their loads at my second job, so just leave a message and i will get back to you as soon as possible.
