I bought a Bachmann - Canadian National EMD GP9 without sound, but now I would like sound and it already has DCC.

item_name: GP9 Canadian National
item_number: 62804
item_description: 'HO' GP9 DIESEL LOCO (DCC) CANADIAN NATIONAL #1701
(yellow w/olive green & black w/dynamic)
Can someone please tell me what Sound Decoder and Speaker do I have to purchase in order to have it too work with.

Product page is here:

As for a sound decoder, I would recommend a Soundtraxx Tsunami EMD 567. As for a speaker, that depends on whether Bachmann has a cut-out for it in the fuel tank.

It depends if it is a new spectrum unit as well. I have a F40PHR with DCC install the fuel tank moves but there is no holes for a speaker, unless you try to place it facing out the rear fans

I wanna say its a 1" round speaker that fits in the fuel tank, the inside of the plastic fuel tank cover is dimpled for drilling for the speaker and there are wire routing paths up thru the tank to the circuit board on the engine. The decoder that is in there is just a plug and play decoder that plugs into the light board, unplug that one and plug in your choice of sound decoder, route the wires down to the speaker and enjoy. I havent checked to see if the new RS3's are preset up for sound yet. Seems most new engines are coming pre set up for sound as that is the direction the hobby is taking. Mike

Hi Folks,

Thanks for all the good feedback and the suggestions.

I took a screw driver to the bottom of the fuel tank and "behold"; It was exactly what was being sold on the Bachmann eStore, but without any holes for the sound to get through the fuel tank.

Time too look for a Speaker, but I already know what Sound Decoder that I'm going to get. Its going to be a Tsunami TSU-1000 for the EMD 567 (1st Generation).

Update on status

I'm getting desperate, because I'm kinda a lost sheep. I was trying to figure out an easier way to get sound onto my Bachmann GP7 EMD 567. I have done some research so and here's more questions?

I noticed that the GP7, factory circuit board you can install an 8-Pin Plugin. Just like the picture below, but it has a very small green rectangular chip.

Now my question is would it be possible to hook up this:

to This:

and then into (CON2) here:

Maybe.

If you can fit the physical decoder (it's actually bigger than it looks) into the locomotive, then it will work. The speaker can go in the fuel tank (Bachmann put a speaker enclosure in there).

I just did the exact same setup, albeit to my Spectrum Steamer 2-6-6-2.
However, The setup is the same. Just like you mentioned and in the order you said. Just make sure to only trim the purple shrink wrap on your decoder on the end. If you trim it all off, it voids the warranty on the decoder. (Assuming it is a soundtraxx.)
I had plenty of room since I have the tender to work with, but I have seen these be a tight fit in Diesels. This was my first decoder install and I found the process to be really easy.
