Did B&O make an ore car? I'm pretty sure I've seen one but can't find any decals from Microscale or Champ. I've got a few undecorated that I'd like to convert.

You mean did the B&O have any ore cars? I don't think they did, if you mean the typical taconite cars like those on the DM&I. The B&O picked up ore at various ports in Ohio and transported the ore to Pittsburgh. This was all done in 40 to 70 ton hoppers that were reinforced for ore service, but looked more like coal hoppers. I'm sure someone will prove me wrong, but I spent a whole year in sixth grade in a school that looked out directly on the B&O main line from Toledo and I don't recall ever seeing what we'd usually think of as an ore car.
Check a copy of Morning Sun's book - The B&O Freight & Passenger Car Guide. If the B&O did have ore cars, it would probably be shown (although I don't recall ever seeing one is B&O paint).
They did! Found one on Ebay but for the life of me cannot find decals for this car.
Of course my stupid firefox browser doesn't let me cut and paste or I'd link it here.
I'm confused. You say you found an ore car on e-bay that you think is a B&O ore car but you can't find decals. What makes you think this model you found on e-bay is a correct prototype? The fact that you can't find decals (nor can I) and that no one remembers or has knowlege of a B&O ore car means they probably didn't have ore cars.
This would be an excellent question for the gang at the B&O Yahoo Group. I myself don't ever remember seeing one though. They didn't serve any ore mining regions, so it wouldn't make sense for them to invest scarce capital into that highly specialized type of car. What they did, was load as much ore into their coal hoppers as their weight ratings would allow, when they would otherwise have returned empty after being unloaded at the ports.

I'd find out who maufactured those models, and when. 20 years ago it was common practice for companies like Athearn and MDC to make one car body style, then slap many different versions of paint and lettering on it, to boost sales. IOW, the fact that a certain model exists doesn't necessarily guarantee that its prototype did...

CSX beat me to the punch on this. There were GG1s lettered Great Northern & New Haven. AHM/IHC would letter engines with any road name they thought would sell. The cars in the photo appear to be Roundhouse/Model Die Casting.
As for decals - Champion Decals (Champ) makes road name & dimensional data decals. I understand they may be closing down as the end of the month (from another list). Check their website for more information.
