Hey guys,

Just wondering - do the turnouts for this track work with DCC? Or would I have to mess with the frog to use them on it?

Thanks!
Kyle

They should work fine with DCC since they are dead frog switches. Actually, the vast majority of switches work with no problems with DCC and those that don't can be easily fixed.

Okay, cool - thanks Jim! I figured most of the frogs were insulated, I was just kind of wondering. I was reading one of the recent Model Railroader magazines, and David Popp was putting in some Peco turnouts on his N scale layout - in which he had to hack/cut and insulate the frog himself.

Kyle, Peco switches come in two flavors, a dead and live frog. Even a live frog switch will usually work OK with DCC but it's a little more tricky in N scale. If a wheel flange or tread touches both the stock rail and point at the same time, you'll get an immediate short with a live frog. Since N scale rolling stock has less mass than larger scales and the wheels and flanges are relatively larger, the chances of this happening in N scale are greater than larger scales.

I also read the David Popp article but instead I bought the Peco insulfrog variety, they're basically dead frogs, which makes wiring easier but you need all wheel pickup on your locos or they may stall going thru the turnout.
